The best magic tricks make audiences question reality. Paradox Button does exactly that, and it even fits in your pocket.

You place a button with two holes inside an envelope, and pass a needle with thread straight through.

Okay, that isn’t really that impressive. And the only thing it’ll make your audience question is your sanity.

That is, until you take the button back out and peel off the holes. They were black stickers the entire time.

You can even give away the button. Is it even a button anymore? Whose sanity is being questioned now?

  • Mark asks: The URL for Amazon as a source for stickers isn't valid. Can you give a size? I'm thinking about 1/8"? Or does sticker size make any difference for how the trick works?

    • 1. Michael J. responds:You want them to match the holes for the illusion, but technically the size is irrelevant.
    • 2. Mark responds:That's why I was asking for a size.
    • 3. Mark responds:With regard to the stickers: the tutorial says you get 24. I got 16 with mine--enough to last quite a while. Had I known this I wouldn't have shelled out for extras I can't even use. (I bought them in 1/8" and they're WAY too big.) I'm trying these, although I have no idea why: https://www.etsy.com/listing/4358480722/2mm-3mm-4mm-dot-decals-x-100-sheet-tiny?
    • 4. Ehrin responds:Vanishing inc.. you gonna respond to last comment????
  • Jeff asks: Can spectators examine the envelope, and the needle & thread afterward?

    • 1. Mark responds:Not an answer, but a question about the question: who cares about the needle and thread? The woman was pulling on the needle in the first place. What's she going to do--make sure it's still a needle? The heat's on the button! You just took the holes off it! And I'm with Gary Ouellet on this. (Thanks for asking.) Examination makes for bad theater. You just did something impossible. She's astonished! Why hand everything out for examination and immediately reduce it to a puzzle? Just give her the button--then she'll have something to remember you by, on those long winter evenings. (Refills available at Vanishing Inc.)
    • 2. Ehrin responds:Refills should be the sticker
  • Frank asks: Where would you find stickers that small?

    • 1. Robert responds:https://www.amazon.com/small-round-stickers/
  • David asks: Good questions... Are there refills? What do the refills consist of? Extra holes? How many? Extra envelopes? How many? Many thanks!

    • 1. Jim responds:https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/amazing-magic/paradox-button-refill/
  • Dan asks: There's no description of what you receive with the original order ($39.99). In the refill you get a new envelope and 10 blank buttons for $19.99. What happens if you lose the black dots you flick off the button?

    • 1. Jim responds:You could use any adhesive sticker as a replacement.
  • Michael asks: Is the thread and needle included with this?

    • 1. Jim responds:Yep!
