Trumped Triumph

This is a Triumph with a HUGE surprise ending, and one that nobody sees coming. Based on John Bannon's seminal "Play It Straight" effect, this version allows you to spread the cards to cause only a spectator's selection to turn face up. But that you instantly respread the deck (no moves) to show that all the cards of a matching suit also turned face up.

It's impossible and unexpected, yet a logical climax to a Triumph routine. Joshua Jay teaches you every step in great detail, and the best part is that you'll be able to incorporate this routine into your repertoire almost immediately. Not at all difficult to do!

Running time: 10 minutes, 31 seconds.

If you are unfamiliar with Josh's concealment in this effect then you are doing yourself a disservice. You will add this move to routines you already do to make them stronger, and you will come up with new routines that will take advantage of this cleverness.

In my opinion, for something you will use so often, the download is a steal.
Art
Very good routine. Just a thought...If you use a stripper deck, after all the cards
of the suit are show, you can thoroughly shuffle (or have the spectator shuffle) and then strip out the 13 suited cards.
Luis
This routine & the applications of the teachings within are invaluable, anyone serious about card magic should definitely purchase Trumped Triumph - I use this ALL the time.
Garry
If you like triumph card magic, then it is so wotth getting this version, it includes two variations.

I loved this!!! Such an amazing trick and so smart to do!!! I will show it to all my friends and the method is incredibly precise and smart! I got it for free using my points and recommend it to anyone looking for what to use their points on! Wow!
Oliver
I got this trick after doing some research Into Triumph, I found this to be the best variation of the trick and I was not wrong to method is so suttle and very well hidden and east to execute, this does require some practice but I don't see why a beginner couldn't master this with abit of practice.

The tutorial is spot on and explains everything you need to know in great detail.

For anybody wondering what to spend your VI points on this is a must for any card magician
Alex
Really cool trick and with an interesting twist on the triumph, triumph type tricks are a personal favorite of mine and this one truly delivers.
John
I’ve just purchased the Move Zero series with the John Bannon Triumph and this definitely takes it to the next level. I got this for free with my VI points but I would be just as happy if I’d purchased it. Excellent quality and service as always with Vanishinginc.
Adam
this is a real worker. dying to try it out this week at my residency. I'm guessing its a stunner. highly recommended.
Trevor
Joshua is an excellent teacher with incredible skill. I immediately liked this trick and cant wait to perform it. quite easy to accomplish with the necessary practise. Highly recommended.
Jonathan
An excellent variation of the Bannon Play It Straight Triumph. Jay has brilliantly constructed the trick so that it plays like a regular triumph, where the spectator's card is the only card in the pack that is turned over and adds the Play It Straight run of all the cards of a single suit as a kicker ending. It's Bannon's triumph with a double ending. You get two climaxes of the trick for the price of one, which makes this an excellent variation.

I love Asi WInd's Triumph and Triumph Again as it is a brilliant example of making the impossible possible and is definitely a magician fooler. Jay's Trumped Triumph, however, is probably just as amazing as Wind's version for a lay person and you get a standard triumph + the straight triumph kicker without any more effort than it takes to do Bannon's original trick.

Well worth learning and well worth doing. As Triumphs go, I like this one and Jay Sankey's Back In Time Triumph--both have incredible impact on the audience, are easy to do, and put a unique spin that augments the original triumph plot.

This triumph variation is simply amazing. I used to have triumph in my arsenal of card tricks, but this application of Josh is really much more powerful than the one I used to do, and I will definitely do that Joshua- triumph from now on. I give it a five star review, and I think you should consider it as well.

verry good
Mitchell
Interesting!
Mark
I think this is a great trick--that offset shuffle is incredible. I've been doing Triumph with "Play it Straight" since the book came out, and I like this one better.

My only complaint: I called that number he showed at the end, and they just hung up on me.
Mark
Awesome card effect! Extremely well explained. This one is worth learning a couple of moves I'm only slightly familiar with. Thanks, Jay
Mark
This trick is a must if you like "Triumph" type effects. It is the most direct version, and the easiest, I've seen. If you can shuffle face-up cards into face-down cards, then you can do this trick...which is setting the bar pretty low--although I must admit I actually had to do it twice before I got the display so that every F/U card except the selection was hidden. I think it was worth the effort.

A very simple, direct, straight-line approach. Being able to do a "Play it Straight" display with no moves AT ALL should come as a complete surprise. I can't think of anything that would make it a better trick. (Well--changing the name to "Jay's Triumph" wouldn't hurt. But the trick itself is a knockout.)
Vic
Very practicle and easy to do. The impact is extremely solid. Spectator interest is held by a simple script that makes this a magical presentation. Your audience will be wanting more of your magic moments that you can conjure up. Thank you Joshua for sharing this for the magic community.
Christopher
Making it look soo easy.
Edward
This is an excellent trick, and explained very well, but I cannot get that off-set shuffle for the life of me, mines a complete mess
Micah
This is a great download. You get a ten minute video with a performance. Joshua Jay goes through the setup and then the trick and teaches you his concealment move. It is a great move that will take some time to perfect it. This is a great routine that is definitely worth buying.
Kevin
Easy, Amazing, Fantastic. the explanation is easy to follow. some practice and this can be done in no time whatsoever. I like the extra kicker at the end. Nice touch
Kevin
Hands on, a very cool effect. Easy to follow video instructions and demonstration. This is a nice effect to add to your collection of card magic routines.
Jim
Great explaination, great impact the second part where he produces a phone number is rather lame because you have to have the phone number to setup the trick. Instead use the serial number from abdollar bill
Kim
Nice. perfect fit
Robert
I have perform the original Bannon version for years. Joshua‘s improved handling takes it to a complete new level. Even If you do the original Bannon version, this would be a must get!
Karen
Thanks for making the Points redemption process so seamless! It extends the value in giving my magical husband gifts from Vanishing Inc. There's just so many good choices! Now, did I see him use that trick, or reading this book, or watching that download? So many good options! Keep up the good work.
Mike

Louis
Very cool trick. Very cool effect. The trick is easy to do but I haven't been able to perform it yet because there is one part that isn't too easy to do and I'm still practicing. There's a certain bridge shuffle that can be done to get the cards into a certain position to continue with the trick, but I'm still working on that part. At the end, there's a bonus trick as well- it's the same trick but with a different outcome. I don't want to take any stars away just because I can't handle the bridge shuffle, but if I did, it would only be a half star. Add that half star to the other half star that I would take away for the video quality and it would be one full star. Therefore, I'm giving the trick 4 stars.
Ulises
Cool routine, I'll use it .
jon
Jawdropping effect - simple, no difficult sleights
Peter
Great trick - I love how it ends so clean that you can simply give the cards back to the spectators for examination or break into another card trick. Clean, clean, clean!!!!
Kane
The effect is my favorite version of a triumph. It is easy to get ready (slight preparation) but it is very manageable and I think if you understand controlling cards you can definitely get ready to perform this during other stages of a routine. It has such a good kicker at the end that I think it is worth that over the initial reveal. Joshua Jay is one of the best teachers and he explains things so well. I must say that it takes some practice because it is a little knacky, but you can definitely get the hang of it.
Victor
Not only a visually astonishing trick, but Josh presents it in a very direct and simple manner. The over the shoulder angles for the explanation were very good. Can certainly be used as an opener for a table routine and it utilizes a regular deck with no gimmicks.
Scott
This is a great version of triumph. Everything Josh puts out is gold. Everything is very well thought out and explained step by step. Like he said you should be able to do this almost immediately. Of course assuming you’ve been handling cards awhile. The cards instantaneously fix themselves after the shuffle and then the kicker ending where you find all the other suits is great. It’s a very well constructed trick. I don’t think I’m giving anything away but you do need to have a set up or stack, and to perform this you would either have to open with it or switch decks. Totally fine with me for the right time, right place. If you want to continue looking into triumph effects Josh has another good one called Back in Time which is a totally impromptu in the hands version with a great plot and convincing display. You learn both and you’ll always be ready to perform miracles in any situation.
Nathan
I really like this effect, very easy to learn and do, doesn’t take any finger flinging moves, but has 2 very powerful moments. I recommend this from beginners to experienced magicians.
Rich
Very smooth and easy handling of the cards. Highly recommended
Bennie
Enjoyable and clear
Lorenzo
Seems like a very doable effect for most who are willing to practice it until smooth. I like.
Arthur
Really clever
Robert
Awesome and easy! Need I say more?
Andres
Great Triumph trick to add to your collection of card tricks! If you’re familiar with John Bannon’s Play It Straight, Triumph from the book Impossibilia, you’ll enjoy this trick. Jay take Bannnon’s trick and take it a little further. Very well explained, good quality video and with the right amount of time for the explanations. The video doesn’t feel rushed, so is very easy to follow. It will definitely require some practice, but itis within the reach of a beginner performer who is willing to put the time to learn the trick and performs it flawlessly. The alternate variation of the trick is worth learning. I’m very satisfied with this purchase and definitely recommend it. I would recommend also to spend some time practicing the last critical riffle shuffle in which the two packets stay separated, but other than that everything else is straight forward. That particular shuffle can be used for other tricks. So that’s another tool for sleight of hand tool box.
John
Excellent video. Look forward to practicing this.
Sherri
It was genius and was so easy to do!
It was almost self-working, the reason I say that is because you always have to add one thing: Yourself!
I'm only eleven years old, and a lot of tricks require big hands to be able to accomplish them. This one, however, your hands can be any size.
I recommend this trick for all levels of magicians!
Michael
Great! I already knew the move from Darwin Ortiz, but this is a great application of the sleight.
SB
So simple but so cool!
Dwight
Beautiful trick! It looks very clean and unbelievable. I am still very new to the world of magic, and this looks very straightforward once you get down the bridge shuffling part, which I am hoping to pick up sooner rather than later. The video is a perfect length—not too much wasting time yet very detailed—so I really got a good idea of how to do the trick.
Mark
Pretty cool...but I'm a little old to be picking up women.
Joseph
it is too hard to do cannot due the required shuffles
Corin
Pretty awesome. Easy and looks impressive. I'll be torturing my students (history/English teacher) with it next Monday.
Lawrence
ery well explained. I just need to learn the faro shuffle.
David
Great effect and explanation.

Community questions about Trumped Triumph

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Michael asks: Is the Faro shuffle mandatory to perform this, or will another shuffle work?

    • 1. Mustafa Kemal responds:You need a faro-type shuffle, i.e. cards need to be interlaced as perfectly as possible. The faro is a complex move, i.e. have small nuances to work on, but what helped me learn it are the great routines that you can do with it. My advise is, if you want to learn the faro, find a routine that inspires you and get to work.
    • 2. Mark responds:Something to bear in mind: this is an in-the-hands faro--it shouldn't be hard to do with a little practice. And as Jay says in the instructional material: the (two) faros definitely do not have to be perfect. And I got the display move to work on the third try.
