The Butterfly Deck

"Tame the butterflies and become that card man."Ondrej Psenicka
It began as a simple fascination with one-way decks, but became an obsession. The result is a truly unique advancement in card magic, one as elegant and beautiful as a butterfly. It's a pleasure to introduce you to Butterfly Playing Cards.
It's a challenge to create a deck that is complex enough to hide marked cards without being too irregular and cluttered, but the Butterfly Deck was designed with an exceptional amount of care and thought, fulfilling its function while displaying a beautiful design. Each card is edge-marked in two ways, allowing you both to locate any card in the deck via the two-way edge marks and to spot any reversed card using one-way marks on either the backs or faces.
For the first time, the Butterfly Deck has made these two systems practical and accessible and you will be able to perform miracle-class effects. You'll very fairly be able to divine selected cards, determine what cards are missing from the deck, how to deal the cards quickly into separate red and black piles, and so very much more.
And heaven help the spectator if you know a memorized stack as well, because using the Butterfly Deck with a mem deck is just patently unfair...for the spectator, that is. They've got no chance at figuring out what is going on.
Make sure you pick this one up before they sell out, because it's likely they will. Don't delay and miss out on one of the truly innovative and powerful magic products of the year.

Customer reviews for The Butterfly Deck
I had already watched the videos through twice before receiving the cards so knew the system. All it took was a few runs through the deck to be able to read at speed. Of course it will take a bit longer to get it constantly good at speed but that's half the pleasure.
The only thing it's not so good for is reversed card tricks as the reversed card is very obvious given the edge marking, but that's my only minor gripe. There are now a good few effects that used to be 'pick a card' that can now be 'think of a card'since you can now cut to any card in the deck easily, although practice will be needed to avoid seeming to be studying the edge of course. Ondrej covers how to avoid this in his video and book.
Overall a beautiful deck and a pleasure to use. I am not a working magician but if I was I would be looking at ways to add this to my repertoire. Just a pity the price makes it expensive to stock up, but it is obvious why the price is what it is.
Well done Ondrej and team.

The Butterfly Deck allows the magus to do two things:
1. Locate any card or cards in a genuinely shuffled and (mostly) squared deck.
2. Locate and name any card reversed in the deck.
These features open the doors, not only to improved versions of old effects, but also to COMPLETELY new effects not possible with standard marked decks.
Whereas the Marksman Deck is optimized to convey the maximum amount of information, the Butterfly Deck is more narrowly focused and brings to perfection the benefits of edge markings with their ingenious integration into the back design. I honestly cannot imagine the process the creator underwent to come up with this finished product!
I am having a BALL with this deck. It rekindles even the faintest of creative fires! One very minor caveat: If you’re a Tamariz stack aficionado, you probably do more faro shuffles than the average card human. Well, I can only speak for myself, but I have NEVER found a new deck more difficult to faro than the Butterfly Deck. You’re probably a better man than I am (Gunga Din), and this may not be a problem for you, but it seems to me that the Butterfly Deck has traded off faro-ability for sturdiness and durability, not necessarily a bad thing.
The marking system is insanly to obvious. Anyone can see it, you don't need to be in the secret to catch the difference between 2 cards. Then thoses cards don't even faro. The stock is great but there's some subtlety that are actually to much. A double "one way" system is 1 to much, also a double marking makes one of them useless if you know what you're looking for. This doesn't worth such a price. Except that they looks great and they feel solid. Thoses "miracles" you can do with that tool can be done with practice with others ones.

Owen asks: Stiff is basically when your cards become clumpy, old and cannot fan the cards. If the butterfly deck is like that, is it hard to read the mark?
- 1. Sgkyduyen responds:To be honest, if the deck be like that I assume it will be hard to read the mark. I have around 10 decks (I bought the first deck in 2017) and non of them have that problem
Owen asks: If the cards get a bit stiff, will it be a lot harder to read the marking system?
- 1. Sgkyduyen responds:I don't understand your question completely. I have an old Butterfly deck, it's pretty old but I still read the mark easily
Rajan asks: Will i get a lesson , with it about how to use the cards
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:There is a 53 minute video included that will teach the use of the deck.
