Martin's classic effect. Even after 30 years, this is still being used by magicians across the world.

In the first two phases three blank cards and an ace are shown. A blank is placed aside facedown, and the ace is put between the other two blanks. A spectator fails to find the ace because the three cards are shown one by one to be blank, and the ace is on the table.

The third time the spectator usually guesses that the ace is on the table. But it is shown to be really a blank card, and the cards in the hand are shown to be all aces!

Years ago, Ken Brooke put out a beautiful Sidewalk Shuffle set in his “Signature Classic” series. The cards were of sturdy plastic and slid easily over each other. The cards provided with Great Big Sidewalk Shuffle are every bit the equal in appearance to the Ken Brooke cards, but they are thin and whippy, flexing far too easily for my taste. As the cards are thin, the necessary double lifts are a bit more technical than those possible with more substantial cards, and the cards do not glide easily over one other. It’s conceivable that both the whippiness and lack of slipperiness could be turned to assets for some, but I find the cards unnecessarily awkward to handle.
It should be noted that the cards are not quite as pictured in the illustration — the tinted box surrounding the center pip of the Ace of Clubs does not, in fact, cannot exist.
