Luke Dancy is back with a fresh, modern take on the classic Chicago Opener (also known as Red Hot Mama).

Meet “Spectra.”

Here’s what happens:

You ask your participant to name any color, not just red or blue, but absolutely any color. They freely select a card, lose it back into the deck, and without any suspicious moves, the back of the card they chose becomes the color they freely named.

But it’s not over yet. You place the card face down in their hands and ask a second participant to choose a card. Their card is lost in the deck, and you ask them what card they chose. They name it, and the card the first participant is holding has changed into the second participant's selection.

“Spectra” works with any deck, with no palming or complicated sleight of hand, and it’s incredibly easy to do. You also receive a handcrafted utility device that lets you secretly bring things in and out of play at any time.

Key features of “Spectra.”

  • Works with a regular deck before and after - start clean, end clean
  • No forces and no equivoque.
  • Handcrafted gimmicks for both red and blue Bicycle back decks.
  • Easy to perform. The gimmicks do all the heavy lifting for you.

You’ll also receive detailed instructions from Luke Dancy himself, including pro tips and handling ideas that make “Spectra” feel completely fair and impossible.

Whether Chicago Opener is already a part of your set or this is your first introduction to it. “Spectra” will, without a doubt, become your favorite way to perform this incredible classic.

For me, this is a trick that didn't need to be made. The Chicago Opener is a great trick and a classic. People seem to want to change classics into something that no one cares about. After working with this, I get it and it's not difficult, but just more than what is need on a strolling gig. People are just as astonished when you just use a blue card with a red deck. Yes, they can ask for other colors with this, but why? This has to go into my drawer of tricks
i never use.

Pretty easy/accessible routine. Gimmicks are well made. I’m a little unsure of the motivation for the cleanup but patter covers it okay.
