The Deliverance

A signed card is placed into the middle of the deck, locked inside a sealed box, and kept in full view. Moments later, that same card appears in an impossible location.

“The Deliverance” by Matthew Wright and Harry Robson is an ingenious card-to-impossible-location system that secretly allows you to retrieve a signed playing card from an apparently sealed box under remarkably fair conditions.

The deck is removed from its box and shown to contain all different cards. A card is freely selected, signed, and returned face-up to the middle of the spread. It remains visibly sticking out of the deck, showing that there are no switches happening.

The cards are slowly pushed back into the box while the signed selection remains in full view. The box is wrapped in cellophane on five sides, leaving the top flap as the only possible way in or out. That flap is closed and secured with a sticker, which your participant signs.

Your hands are clearly empty. The sealed box remains in full view. Yet, whenever you choose, you can secretly retrieve their signed card and make it appear in virtually any impossible location you like.

For an even more impossible presentation, the sealed card box can be placed inside a paper bag and completely wrapped in gaffer tape. Despite all of this, you can still gain access to the signed card whenever you need it.

“The Deliverance” is incredibly easy to do and requires no difficult sleight of hand or complicated moves. There are no switches or forces. Multiple handlings are taught, allowing you to adapt the system depending on what you’re wearing; whether you perform in a jacket or jeans and a T-shirt, you will learn to perform it in anything.
