One of the highlights of Retreat: Mexico City was getting to learn about the history of magic in Mexico from Enrique Jiménez-Martínez. In this exclusive set of notes, you’ll get to read the fascinating history of Mexican magic from pre-Hispanic cultures through the European influences, to current times. While no tricks are taught, this booklet gives a piece of the incredible and unforgettable cultural history we absorbed on the Retreat: Mexico City.

Bank Notes by Gregory Wilson
On each Retreat, we try to keep a few surprises up our sleeves, and in Mexico City, Greg Wilson was one of those surprises. Bank Notes is a collection of impromptu (and impromptu seeming) effects with currency originally published in MAGIC magazine. Inside this booklet, you’ll learn a fantastic Bill-to-Chapstick routine, a quick trick where you tear the president’s face off the bill before restoring it, and a routine where you change a stack of $1’s into $100’s.

Feeling Magic by Javier Natera
Javier Natera’s Feeling Magic shares two deeply personal routines and an essay that, if you’re anything like us, you’ll want to remember for the rest of your life. You’ll learn a thought-of-card effect that Javier calls “A Trick for A Blind Person”, which Javier developed to allow a blind participant to actually feel the experience of magic, and his tribute to Juan Tamariz, which can be done from a shuffled deck in use. Both routines are a blast to perform, and were hits at the Retreat. But our favorite part of this booklet is his Magical Ideology Essay, which outlines a new way to find and develop a philosophy behind your magic.
