YOU ASKED FOR IT AND NOW BRUCE HAS DONE IT!
For years, many magicians asked Bruce to create a Growing and Shrinking Head Spiral to fit into suitcases, briefcases and backpacks. He's done it! This new spiral folds in half because of a cloth hinge that has been fused with a special glue to the back of the spiral. That makes it half the size.

The hardware that is included keeps the spiral rigid when it spins. It's the perfect solution to performers who travel a lot on planes or have minimal room in their show cases.

At a recent convention, Bruce walked around with the folding spiral and magicians were crazy excited about it.

If you don't know the effect, here it is:

Without doing a thing, you perform the most talked about illusion in your act! DO NOT CONFUSE THIS WITH ANY OTHER SPIRAL ILLUSION YOUR HEAD ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE IT IS INFLATING LIKE A BALLOON!

Bruce Kalver performs at many schools doing his EYE DON'T BELIEVE IT Science magic show. Out of all the tricks he performs in this educational based assembly show, THE INCREDIBLE SHRINKING AND GROWING HEAD gets the most response.

Magician displays a 15 inch specially made spiral disk. Kinda like you'd imagine a hypnotist using. The spiral is spun and you instruct the audience to stare at the spiral and don't look away. You start to count backwards from 10 to 1 and when you reach one, tell the audience to look at your nose. TO THEIR AMAZEMENT, YOUR HEAD BEGINS TO GROW LIKE A BALLOON BEING INFLATED!

Every audience wants to do it again so this time you have the audience select a partner. Spin the disk the other way and when they look at their partner, THEIR PARTNER'S HEAD BEGINS TO SHRINK!

All the spirals are specially drawn and printed for us. The spiral can be seen in large auditoriums or use it at a birthday party. People are amazed and always yell "do it again!" The hardest part of this illusion is trying to keep a straight face as your entire audience stares at you in disbelief with their mouths wide open. You are going to love this!

Available in new professional Flexi-plastic.

PLEASE NOTE: Motor not included. If you don' have a motor, All spirals come with an adapter to attach to a Black and Decker cordless screwdriver.

Customer reviews for Folding Travel Spiral

I haven't tried it out yet. Why?

because it comes without a handle. "Just a trip to the hardware store will solve it". Well yes. It would. I'm a fan of vanishing and amazekids because the products are for working pros. Well this product is incomplete. I have yet to tweak it for professional use.

Perhaps you could at least give us a hint on which type of handle would suit better or something. Or perhaps something we can use for the spiral to turn around by itself like in the demo. Because I think it adds to the illusion if the magician is away from the prop.

Perfect for travelling. The spiral disc made of sturdy plastic simply folds in half, making it easy to pack in a small suitcase. Recommended!

The spiral is well made and sturdy. It does fold flat easily and assembles in no time. SUGGESTION: Along the edges of the fold at the black portion of the spiral, a white line is slightly visible. Using a black permanent market at these edges hides it quite nicely.

Though it is identified as "children's magic," it is quite appropriate for an older audience. HISTORICAL NOTE: I first saw this performed by Bascom Jones (MAGICK Magazine editor) many years ago as the opener for his mentalism show and lecture. More than 40 years later, I still remember it! He wove it into his set in a clever manner. Carrying on this idea, I will be using it at a Cabaret Lounge later next month. Bascom, thanks for the idea. It only took 40+ years to act on it.

I'm making a stand for the electric screw driver that will spin it. I can't wait to share it with my audiences.

UPDATE to my original review.
After attaching the spiral to the electric screw driver, I found that it spun it much too quickly. I researched scores of screwdrivers and they all turned the disk too fast.

What DOES work better is a battery powered hanging wind spinner gizmo. It is an easy matter to attach a metal coupling nut (1/4 - 20) to the end of the shaft of the spinner motor. Simply screw the bolt that comes with disk and you're set to go. It turns at 20rpm, a perfect speed for the spiral effect to kick in.

Such motors also are available with remote controls if you prefer that. NOTE: I experimented with 10rpm and it's too slow. The best speed, in my view is 20-30 rpm.

It is also easy to build a stand to hold the motor horizontally. Made from thin plywood and assembled with small bolts and wingnuts makes it easy to flatten and pack in your briefcase or luggage.

As I said in my earlier review, I'm super excited about performing this for the public. So far, my neighbors and family are enjoying my routine. It works great.
