“A beautiful, practical, deceptive solution for Ring on Shoelace” Patrick Kun
“Chris has made the BEST version of Ring to Shoelace. It’s so fast and clever! I will use it for sure.” Hector Mancha
Inspired by Richard Sander’s “Ring on Shoelace,” there has been a resurgence of Ring on Shoelace effects lately. At FISM, we saw the best version we have ever seen: “NoRisk” by Chris Torrente.
Here’s the effect: you borrow a ring, make it vanish, and then instantly show that it is tied to your shoelace. It’s done without silks, covers, or unnecessary moves; you vanish it in your hand, and then somehow it’s already on your shoelace. Part of its deceptiveness is that it happens so quickly. Impossibly quick.
NoRisk is a new method that is simple, fast, and instantly resettable. This makes it perfect for strolling, close-up, or parlour performances. You can set it up in almost any pair of pants and be ready to go in just a few minutes. As the name suggests, there is no risk to the borrowed ring, because, unlike other versions, the ring is kept securely under the performer’s control the whole time. We’ve all heard the horror stories: The reel catches, a thread snaps, or worst of all, the ring hits the floor. “NoRisk’s” unique method makes the ring hitting the ground impossible.
You can use any shoelaces and the preparation in your pants takes about five minutes. It doesn’t need to be done by a tailor and doesn’t require sewing. Then you’re ready to repeat this effect as often as you like with no reset required.
- No difficult sewing
- No reel
- No tricky angles
- No jacket
Customer reviews for NoRisk
Those points aside, I have spent more for each of the other two methods of this effect that I own and I have heard the ring hit the floor with both. For NoRisk I will gladly do the required alterations on the pants I perform in. Both of my prior versions were great, this is just a better evolution. Unlike one of those versions, you can move this between pants that are already altered in a few seconds.
My review might get rejected, but I think it’s fair for people who are on the fence to have this information.
It does as advertised. Great effect. Direct, efficient and not difficult.
YES, you make a cut in your pocket. However, the cut is not at the bottom of the pocket. So, in theory, your pocket can still be useable.
Your pants can NOT be tight, or even snug. Dress pants would be perfect. If you do this with a light weight ring in pants that are touching your leg at all, there is a strong chance the ring will get held up. I tried it in jeans that I would not consider “tight” and the ring stopped mid way down.
Again, this is an awesome project. But many of you might need to invest in useable pants or make some fashion changes for it to work properly.
Perfect. Will last forever. Easy to switch between pants and shoes. This is the final word on this plot, the only thing better would be real magic.
Bravo.

Joseph asks: I would like to know if, after preparation, I can walk around and experience the effect at any time, or does it have to be immediately?
- 1. Jim responds:You can walk around.
Darryl asks: is there any requirement of installing a magnet somewhere ? Thanks all
- 1. Andrew responds:Yes.
Roger asks: I'm guessing you can't do this wearing shorts?
- 1. Daren responds:No
- 2. Mark responds:Not even f you're wearing chaps?
Ryan asks: Can this be performed without going to the pocket?
- 1. Daren responds:No
- 2. Ryan responds:Thanks very much
Jeffrey asks: Does this make the pocket unusable for other things?
- 1. John responds:Pretty sure you can use your poket for other things. He literally pulled a lighter out.
- 2. Jeffrey responds:Yes, but assuming there is something in the pocket that needs to be kept clear. So my question more accurately is, does this limit use of the pocket. Thanks.
- 3. Johnny responds:Magie Factory's site has some FAQs. If you scroll down about halfway on this page: https://www.magie-factory.fr/en/products/norisk One of them asks "Can I put something else in the pocket?" The answer is: "Basically, this pocket is dedicated to the effect. However, you can add a top pocket, or even put a zipper in the bottom of it."
Mark asks: Hi chaps, can this be done in Jeans??
- 1. Oliver responds:The trousers need to ideally be straight legged and not tight. I personally would stay away from jeans and think more suit or casual trousers / pants.
Rick asks: Will I need to get a seamstress to install this? Will I need to give up my pocket space, or can the pocket still be used to hold my current props?
- 1. Mark responds:The blurb says "It doesn’t need to be done by a tailor and doesn’t require sewing." It also says "No difficult sewing." Logically, if it doesn't require sewing it doesn't require difficult sewing. (And thank you Mark Elsdon but I bought What is the Name of This Book when it came out).
- 2. Gary responds:You are cutting a hole in a pocket. I would say sewing is not required but I would do some sewing.
Charlie asks: 1.) Can you take it out and place it into another pair of jeans? 2.) Can any pair of shoes be used?
- 1. Mark responds:The video says any shoes, and any shoelaces, can be used. You have to spray-paint everything black, though. Just kidding. Go watch the video--it does say you can use any shoes and any shoelaces.
Simon asks: Does the set up damage your trousers?
- 1. Oliver responds:You will need to make a hole in your pocket.
