Shrapnel

A time-tested classic reimagined to serve as the perfect everyday carry for the modern performer.
Inspired the iconic “Linking Pins” (which was popularized by Jerry Andrus), Kim Andersen has created an organic powerhouse effect that you will want to carry with you everywhere. These two everyday objects are all you need to leave every person you meet speechless.
Using just a safety pin and a finger ring (which can even be borrowed if you’d like), you can perform a hard-hitting series of visual miracles—each one more impossible than the last. Right in front of their eyes, the ring and safety pin melt through each other like a warm knife through butter. Each phase happens at your command until finally the safety pin and ring unlink for the final time.
Here’s the craziest part… everything can then be examined.
“Shrapnel” is like movie magic in real life. But it’s NOT just another social media magic trick. This is a practical and commercial worker designed to be performed in your close-up magic and street magic sets.
You get everything you need to start performing “Shrapnel” right away, including two precision-made gimmicked pins, a custom carrying tin, a finger ring and some extra accessories. The two hour detailed video from creator Kim Anderson features multiple live performances and highlights everything you need to know in great detail.
Pull the pin and make their brains explode with "Shrapnel." A must-have everyday carry magic trick. Get yours today!
Customer reviews for Shrapnel
Been good if the live performances were filmed were you could see the moves that are taught at normall speed, especially dumping and retrieving from the back pocket, none off these moves were filmed in the live performances, as a lot off this was mostly the reaction off the spectators, or negative bad angle viewing,
i even started to feel sea sick with the camera moving around so much.
Other than that, Shrapnell takes up hardly any pocket space, its even smaller than a deck off cards, And it comes with several layers off methods that you can perform, what's great is use the methods that suit you best. You don't have to borrow a ring, you can use the ring thats provided.
Shrapnel is a good fun one to perform.
Shame about the bad video productions.
About 2 hours of tutorial, 2 gimmicks, 3 extra regular safety pins, a good quality gold ring, a magnet, and a carry tin that looks like a regular mint tin!
Well worth the money ??
Highly recommend
It may not be new but it is very well done -- even the way the pin is gimmicked has been thought out and done slightly differently than most other versions. If you like what you see in the trailer, get it. Highly recommended.
But I don’t think it is a bad investment, I really do see it as a EDC and I would recommend it to people who do street magic and walk around!
Kim Anderson is a very good teacher and very considerate to teach all type of handling for all range magician from beginner to pro. He even taught you how to perform shrapnel seated using two normal safety pin.
Highly recommended.
This is certainly one I’m going to invest the time in to make the effect first class.
Personally I think it’s great value for money - when you look at the materials, and the support, it’s brilliant.
This trick is so well designed…From the gimmicks themselves, to the way Kim teaches the illusion. Every little nuance on handling the gimmick, to switching it out, has been ironed out for you. Even the addition of a —?— to help with the switch! I absolutely love it! This is my 1st time learning a trick from Kim Andersen, and I must say not only is Kim a Great F’in Magician, but he is a wonderful instructor as well. If you have ANY doubt about buying “Shrapnel”, let my review of it make that doubt simply VANISH!!
The only effect I've not been able to successfully pull off (and never will probably) is when the ring is tossed up and then penetrated onto the safety pin. I don't think that one is obtainable for me without a lot pf practice but I have other things I would rather focus on.
As for the gimmick quality, I did have one break with the first three days. HOWEVER, the gimmick is so bare bones you can easily fix it with super glue.
This effect isn't going to blow people's minds but it is super cool and nice to place in the middle of a set or to just randomly pull out in a casual setting. I would definitely buy it again

Tony asks: I couldn't help noticing in the Q & As that for some, the gimmicked pins have broken or just plain fallen apart. Is this a quality control problem, and, for those this happens to, do they get a replacement or refund?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Or course people would get a replacement if there is an issue with product!
Diego asks: Can we purchase extra gimmicks w/o having to buy the whole routine. I do this so much that I’m afraid at some point the two supplied ones will break and I’ll need more!
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:At the moment we do not sell refills for this product
Jodie asks: My safety pin broke where can I purchase another?
Geoffrey asks: My gimmick broke. Can I use super glue to repair it or is there another method?
- 1. Jim responds:If you have the skills, tools and supplies, I would use silver soldering. Super Glue may work, but I would not expect it to last.
- 2. Joe responds:Super glue works amazingly well for things like this ONLY if you pair it with a small amount of baking soda on top of the super glue. The baking soda makes the super glue harden instantly, and remain hard as concrete.
José Carlos asks: Hi, can these pins be used for Jerry Andrus routines?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Yes!
Larry asks: Are replacement pins available? One already fell apart on day two (didn't break; I believe the weld was weak because it simply dropped out NOT from pressure or performance)?
- 1. Jim responds:None are listed at our suppliers. Write to customer service.
David asks: I've owned several sets of Jerry Andrus pins and they are wonderful, since then I've purchased similar pins from other companies and the break after a couple performances. Are these made to last?
- 1. Jim responds:If you treat them with respect, they will last. If not…
- 2. Chris responds:One of the gaffed pins I received broke completely at the level of the metal within 5 minutes of gentle practice. The pins are very thin and frankly feel pretty cheap. The routine itself is brilliant and the links look great, but for the price I would expect the pins to be more durable.
Joseph asks: Does Kim (or could he be persuaded to) divulge the maker of the ungimmicked pins? I would like to have a metric ton of them to leave with people as a souvenir/sanity breaker... ;)
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:That's a great idea! The pins are very standard and you can find them in most arts and crafts stores.
Warren asks: How fragile is the gimmicked pin ie would i be able to carry it around in my wallet rather than use the tin or would there be a risk of damaging it ?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The pin is the same as a normal safety pin but we recommend that you carry it in the provided tin.
Stephane asks: Is the move at 00:32 feasible? Knowing the original method, I feel like this part of the video is running backward in time and actually shows the unlinking phase as a linking phase.
- 1. Christopher responds:What you see is exactly how it happens. Kim says it’s not something he does a lot because it’s a knack but I’ve been getting it down easier than I thought.
