Meet “The Breakthrough System” by Johannes Mengel. This takes the classic can penetration plot and puts it on steroids.
Here’s what happens:
A soda can is borrowed. The tab is pulled off and clearly placed on the bottom of the can. You cover both ends and shake. Everyone hears the tab rattle against the aluminum. When you lift your hands, the tab is gone. It has penetrated the can and is now inside.
Then you proceed to break one of the cardinal rules of magic. You repeat the trick again. The tab goes on the bottom of the can, you shake it, and it penetrates the can.
For the final phase, you repeat the trick for a third time, except this time, it all happens in the participants' hands. They hold the can, they cover it with their hands, they shake it, everyone hears it, and the tab penetrates the can again! They can even remove the tab from inside of the can themselves!

For me, this was money well spent. It's something I'll use forever. The thinking is strong, and I've had a blast working with it. There's one phase where, after watching the explanation, I literally laughed - it's that smart. It's not difficult, but it will take practice to make it look as good as Johannes does. I tried the Breakthrough System out in the real world, and I can honestly say this is one of the greatest impromptu routines of all time. Johannes has put a ton of thought into this and it shows. Once you think the next phase can’t be better than the previous it is. What's great is the fact he has supplied so many methods you can pick and choose what phases you want to do. It’s like a Swiss Army knife. And some of the phases can be done in the participant’s hands. For them it really feels like they do everything. I think for the price I was just expecting something a little more when it came to the revolutionary idea, and the production quality. I use something similar with a sharpie, so I’m glad to see that this effect has translated to this tab in can routine. The production quality is also good enough to watch, but doesn’t really justify the price in my opinion.
Looking forward to learning the rest of the master class but feeling like the purchase was pretty impulsive unfortunately.

- 2. Johannes (creator) responds:You can translate the routine into a stage effect as well where you end the final phase of the routine by asking a person from the audience to join you to the stage. You make them perform the trick and they can leave the stage taking the can with the tab inside with them, making this performance the talk of the evening as everyone surely wants to see that can after the show. Even better when the venue serves drinks and the spectator can come to the stage with their own can. I performed it at a bachelor party with 40+ people where I asked the bachelor to come up front and I made him perform the trick himself - making HIM the star. So it works great with large audiences and is a very strong way to create a highlight experience for the important person of the event - bachelor, birthday boy/girl, bride/groom, owner of the company, the person who hired you etc.

- 2. Johannes (creator) responds:Yes, the gimmick is very simple thing even a child can do. TBS works with ANY can all around the world. Yes, majority of the versions taught are WITHOUT the gimmick. All the street performances you see in the trailer are done without the gimmick. Hope this brings enough clarity!

Mr.E asks: Can the tab or coin be signed?
- 1. Johannes (creator) responds:I worked really hard to make this plot as organic as possible - meaning removing all unnecessary elements from the routine - this includes using coins or carrying markers with you or signing anything. Signing anything in this routine would be a complete magician's overthinking... Think about from the spectator's perspective - "why is this guy asking me to sign the tab he pulled off of my can?" This creates confusion and suspicion if anything. That said, you could sign the tab when using impromptu versions. But like I said I do not recommend it, because it makes the effect less and does not make sense given the organic nature of the routine.

- 1. Johannes (creator) responds:TBS is very beginner friendly. Even the versions with the hardest sleight of hand are 4-5 out of 10.
Ron asks: At the 1:01 mark the a spectator puts the tab on top of the can and covers it with his hand, the video then does a pullback cut and you see the spectator shake the can and the tab is gone....why did they do this pullback edit, it makes me think something fishy happens that they don't want to show thus the pullback edit...its the only thing keeping me from purchasing this download, please let me know if I'm seeing this wrong and show a full uncut video.
- 1. Johannes (creator) responds:As stated in the trailer: "Of course, the trailer protects the method, but obviously it can't be a self-working trick when it's a borrowed can. So it seems like a spectator can do it all, but there has to be something more. It's not real magic!" So OF COURSE something else needs to happen otherwise it would be real magic if a spectator can do 100% everything on their own with their own can - yes, this is what they EXPERIENCE, but of course it can't be real, because that would literally defy the laws of physics. So don't expect this to work over Zoom or while you are in another room. :) What I can say is that from the spectator's perspective they are doing 100% everything themselves and this is true: 1. They can hold the can 2. They can hold the tab 3. They can place the tab on the bottom of the can 4. When they cover the bottom the tab is truly there 5. They can immediately shake the can and hear how the tab falls inside 6. It's a borrowed can and they can fully examine it/keep it. I can't say more, that would be already fishing methods. So it's not real magic, but it's the best method to get you as close to it as possible using a borrowed can.
