Wow. Just wow. This is spectacular. It truly is a system and not just a mem deck. Will you need to memorize the stack, yes. Is it worth it? 100%. The ability to chain effects together to create routines without fussing around and possibly breaking your stack is brilliant. And these aren’t just mediocre effects. These are killer tricks that you can tell have been road tested. It doesn’t hurt that that this is the type of card magic I like to perform.
The teaching and thought behind this is incredible.
if you want impromptu card tricks there are hundreds of books on those. If you want to come prepared to do some heavy hitting card magic then you should consider this. I know that I will be having a deck set up for this system as a part of my repertoire.

Wish the quality of the audio was more consistent in the early part of this video...seems the intercutting of several performances betrayed inconsistent mic'ing or technical snafus. Hope the main material is more consistent.

Usually when someone says the have a "system", I think of the late night infomercials like: "I have a system where you can get rich by placing small classified ads in the newspaper. Buy my system to learn the secrets." I hear this and I immediately get suspicious.
Also, when you make a bold claim like you can memorize this deck in 1/2 the time, that sounds ridiculous. How do you know that for sure? As it turns out, it is just logic. because of the way this deck is structured, you only have to memorize 1/2 the deck and the other half you get if you can just add +2.
As for the system, well, that is a very accurate statement. I think it is selling this short by calling it a mem deck. In fact, the first tricks I looked at require no memorization, they just require use of the stack and some of the other clever commonly used tools that Josh included. So one of the great things about this is that you can get started with some great effects that require no memorization while you start memorizing the stack.
The only negative is that unlike some of the other stacks, you really can't have this one examined face up on a table. But there are lots of solutions to that one issue and Josh goes through a number of them. The upsides of this very well thought through system are tremendous.
Well worth the investment.

For any serious card magic performer/enthusiast I can't recommend this enough. Thank you, Josh. I can tell the amount of time and love you've put into this. Worth every penny. Alright. I don’t normally post reviews but in this case I had to! This is absolutely the best mem system ever. Easy to understand and incredibly powerful. Take 20 min a day of your time and in a week you will memorize it. Joshua has given you his lifetime study and for me this project should be priced ten times more of the asking price. Well done Vanishing Ink for producing this instant-classic. Without a doubt this system will remain in the history of magic!

After waiting several years the book finally arrived. It was worth the wait. It’s a big, heavy and beautiful hard cover book. The contents of the book are very well organized and it’s easy to read and to understand. It’s also accompanied by full color photos making everything clear as day. So far the system/stack is easy to understand and I’ve began the process of memorizing them and I can’t wait to put this knowledge to use. It also comes with the playing cards and full video performances and explanations. And thanks to the special Black Friday deal I also got the ebook free, so I was already learning the stack before the book came. VI is the best! Really great mem deck book. I like the effects in the Particle System over the sort that are built in to the Aronson and Tamariz stacks. The stack doesn’t look like it’d withstand a lot of scrutiny with a prolonged face up spread, but the stack is better masked with just a cut of the cards (as shown in one the the book’s pictures). The benefits of the stack/ effects achievable outweigh the downside, IMO.

What can I say? I was never moved to learn a memorized deck, and now I am thanks to Joshua Jay. Not only does The Particle System feel much more approachable to learn than many stacks out there, it also offers a number of unique benefits, including a suite of effects that require zero fumbling or awkward displacement to prepare for. Joshua also favours punchy worker's effects rather than the long-winded, formal card work that memorized deck magic often manifests as. The book is as well written and engaging as you'd come to expect from Joshua Jay, and the rewards are plentiful, including a series of clever false shuffles and cuts that you can use in your arsenal in general plus clever ideas like a low-tech way of making a prepared deck appear to be completely sealed in cellophane at the start of a performance. If you love mem deck work, get this book. If you love card magic in general, get this book.

The live performances. Wow! This is so neat. It's so cool seeing the effects performed for a live audience and seeing their reactions. Please more of that! Compared to one performance on the street with many cuts that work well to push the trick, these are live performances of Josh doing the very tricks you'll learn. No camera edits that hide the moves and it's not needed. Knowing how they work, you're still captivated by the performance. Helps to really see how to present the tricks while learning them.
Simple. Powerful. Magic. You can really pick up the influence Josh had in carrere with this system. The effects are strong, simple to follow, and down right magical. Perfect for what we should be striving to entertain. Laypeople. These include routines for all skill levels. If you prefer effects that don’t require a table, there are many here. Josh also teaches simple and practical false cuts and shuffles.
It may not be obvious to everybody but much of the system is presented in the manner of suggestions. If some parts do not appeal to you, there is still plenty in the manner of methods, effects, and presentations that you are likely to adopt.
Most impressive of all are the clarity with which Josh writes, how well motivated his discussions are, and how much he explains his thinking and choices that come from extensive performing experience.

I'm sure there was some level of frustration with this long delayed project, but we've been presented with material that is truly tested and workable. Something very rare, except in those "lifetime of magic" books and even then it's not always true.

I genuinely think this will be around a long time.

I buy a lot of magic...and I mean A LOT and as I am in my 80's I have done so for a lot of years. Maybe a part of me is always looking for the "perfect" trick for me and my style. Very few effects I buy exceed my expectations. My passion is mostly cards and when I received Particle I got something that has won, hands down, the award for being something that is so much better than what I imagined it would be.. I even upgraded to the deluxe edition because I thought it was so good
So much love and attention seems to have gone into the project. I have Mnemonica and a lot of other mem deck books and ebooks, and as blown away as I was by Mnemonica..and I have the book and the videos.. I feel Particle has opened up so many more doors..I especially like the way it teaches routines, and routines that don't demand a really superior skill set with sleight of hand.. I almost feel I don't need to ever buy another book about card tricks.

Absolutely amazing. Before I received the book I was able to watch the videos that you received once the orders is made, Six videos and around Six hours plus of video play time, that's so awesome, with Joshua Jay plenty of demos, followed by lots of information first, followed by full tutorials too and a great teacher and very enjoyable to watch and learn from too, quality video production nice and clean, There's so much more than I expected on these videos. Then I received the book Wow, again so much better than I expected, it's a lovely quality hard back book, I have had a glimpse through the book and the format and design is so awesome and so much information with lots of Coloured photos too.The deck set up i absolutely love, this is right up my street as the saying goes. I just can't wait to get stuck in.and start learning from this book and from the videos too. This is Just so brilliant, So if you like card magic, for me if there was a choice of any card magic, I would say this is the one to have, And I've only just got started on this Particular one.

The more I study The Particle System, the more I feel myself liking it. Having committed the deck to memory and now locking it in, I am really appreciating all of the built in effects like this first Act.
All of the interlocking elements make for a marvellous set performance of strong engaging magic. I made a point of having some strong effects I always perform when handed a brand new deck. All of my routines have joined The Particle System.

I've only started working with this, but wow!! What a system. The ease of learning it, the "system" of multiple things going on - all come together to be something I'll definitely be using for years to come. The weekly emails are both helpful and encouraging. This is a comprehensive system that comes with some phenomenal routines! The included cards with the reveals are great!! Get this now while you can! The Deluxe edition, while pricey, is worth it for sure. And if nothing else, the box is amazing!! Well done guys!

I just got through the download for the second time and should receive the deluxe edition tomorrow in the mail. I am excited about receiving the books and the cards especially since I have watched the download already. I realize that this will be a bit of work to memorize the stack but it will be worth the effort. This is a sensational book. Absolutely worth 5 stars.To think I nearly dismissed it! My attitude was, “Do I really need another book on card magic?” Having previously made several attempts at learning a memorised stack I was not very keen on the idea of another one!! Well, how wrong I was. This is a veritable Book of Delights, accompanied by a substantial, high quality video package including three different shows, together with explanations and instruction on less common false cuts and shuffles, and yet more! There are good support mechanisms to help with learning the stack. Wow is too weak a word for it.
The focus is on three key aspects of a magic performance: Practicality, Spectacle and Artistic quality. These goals are achieved in Spades (forgive the pun). The stack system is very well designed and significantly much easier to learn than normal. The book plus video package gives excellent instruction on a variety of top notch effects with the Particle Stack. In addition, a number of strong non-stack effects are built in, including some that require a substantial set up. For example, a favourite effect is a handling of Oz Pearlman’s ‘Perfection’. I have been waiting for this book to be released for well over a year. It's finally here. The Particle Stack/System is just wonderful. I have been an Aronson Stack user since 1995 and am switching to the Particle Stack. Everything I did with Aronson (except my original story The Legend of Southside Johnny) can be done with the Particle Stack and more. Much of my thinking about incorporating non stack effects into your stack work are mirrored in this book and was a nice validation for me. I have already memorized the stack and am working through the effects now. It is an exciting new journey. Thank you for this book!

One word WOW!! This is the only book I have read since Christmas. There is so much wonderful information that I don't know where to begin. First the packaging is first rate and wonderful I did order the Deluxe Edition and receive all that is needed to start the journey or quest to the Particle System. Second the content and the way it is displayed makes it easy to start and get it going to add to your show ASAP. Having the cards all set up is a nice touch, the pictures are clear and very helpful. The text is easy on the eyes and easy to read. When I'm ready and confident I will be able to present the routines that are in the book to my magic buddies and magic club and I know with the teaching in front of me I will be able to do the effects in the book and create real miracles.
I do recommend you acquire this book before it becomes out of print so you won't regret it not obtaining it.

Five stars. As a 70 year old man who has a poor memory anyway, I was concerned that it would take forever to memorize the deck. After 20 days I have been able to memorize all 52. The tips that we'd given as well as the set up of the deck has allowed me to have an immediate recall of most cards and in a couple of seconds I can calculate the card number by referring to another card. The trainer that came with the purchase has really helped.

I've been using the Aronson Stack for a few years and love it, so I was hesitant to consider another stack. I'm still working on it, but so far it is much easier to memorize and the effects in the book are fantastic. The whole system is what makes these tricks astonishing to audiences. Josh always delivers - and you can tell he poured his heart and soul into this work. I, for one, am grateful. Looking forward to diving into the rest of the book this week and making the stack stick! What a great book! I was dubious at first as I had already been using the Aronson stack but this book has so many good ideas with regards to mem deck work and also the sleights Josh provides you with at the beginning are brilliant and something to add to your toolbox. Only read the first 100 pages but I know I will keep reading this book and enjoy adding some of the routines to my repertoire

Great work on the Particle system and thanks so much for including both video performances and tutorials. I am more of a visual learner so the videos are more learner friendly for me. I will start this review by telling you that, this product, with all honesty is 100% worth it. I say this as someone who never puts 100% in any review without it being a game changer in magic. This is a game changer in magic which is why I put 100%. I also will say that before I was introduced to the Particle System I never even touched or looked at a memorized deck. This was because I hated the idea of it. I was then intrigued by the ad copy so I put it on my birthday list and, received it as a birthday gift. I then fell in love with this system and now I perform my entire magic set for walk around events in this stack. I even perform my variations on tricks from the book. I will say this one final time before I put a final period to this long review. This book is 100% worth your investment and time.

The Particle System book is a real treat. Having struggled to memorize a deck for many years, this system is truly easier – while I’m not there yet, the goal of memorizing the deck is in sight. The book is more than the system, there are outstanding effects, my two favorites are currently Remember to Be Honest and Memorized X-Ray, I am confident that I will have more “favorites” as I continue reading. The outstanding false cuts/shuffles also enhance the book. Bravo.

The Particle System is (like everything from Vanishing Ink), a beautifully produced book that explains everything you need to make this magic happen. The video download that comes with this purchase is also superb, but the major highlight for me is being able to join a community of people who are using this system regularly while learning with and from each other.
There are just a few things I'd note for those who may be cautious about spending such a hefty sum, that I wish I had known before purchasing. First, I'm not sure that the stack stands up to scrutiny as well as it's presented. If spectators really get a chance to see the order, they'll likely know something is up. This means that the cards can't be spread face-up very much, if at all, in your show. It also means that any variation of ACAAN that features face-up dealing is off the table. Of course, one can easily argue that the ability for a spectator to themselves cut to any named card is at least as strong as the best of ACAANs, but it was a disappointment for me.
My other major disappointment was that the advertising says that "Anyone who purchases The Particle System from Vanishing Inc. will also receive a deck of custom “Particle Pack Playing Cards.” Even long before these decks were sold out on VI (something I hope changes in the near future!), my book did not come with a pack. Those packs were very affordable so I ordered one or two as soon as I realized I didn't have one but with them now being sold out, it would seem that people have to either sacrifice the markings and few gaffs that come with the deck or improvise with their own takes on those parts of the system. This is a great concept and has plenty of excellent tricks built in. The production of the book and explanations within it are as expected from Vanishing Inc. The setup from new deck order is quick and the marks are excellent. There is mention in the book of changing the stack to suit you, but I have decided to use as is for now. I love the fact that you can remove a card from the stack and easily name that card.

I was hesitant about spending $100 on a single book about memorized card work, which I've always struggled with. Bit the bullet and I'm glad I did.
A: The stack itself is moderately easy to memorize. I'm not going to say it's automatic, but every time you memorize where a card goes, you know its mate as well. There's also a few other features built in that allow you to remember the general area of a card just by knowing the value and suit. In about two weeks of working 5-10 minutes a day, I had over half the deck down cold.
2: The routines Josh provides in this book are modern, practical, hit hard, and easy to do.
III: You don't even need to memorize the stack for many of the effects provided.It's pricey, yes. But the book is gorgeous, the routines are almost all reputation makers, and if you put in the work (which you should), you'll get miracles out of it.

If you dont have this get it! It is incredible what you can learn and do with this system. I've never done memorized deck work before, but this makes total sense to me. Joshua Jay is a great teacher and the tricks taught in the book are all incredibly hard hitting. I couldn't recommend this book enough!!

If you want to learn stack, get this book, if you don’t want to learn stack, get this book! The stack itself is awesome! I found stack work to be intimidating but I found this to be an amazing intro to it. Not to mention Joshua Jay has specifically designed it to do amazing magic with minimal work by having some of the best classics in Magic built in so the setup is already done for you. Also his chili shuffle is my new all time favorite false shuffle to use! Get this book if you want to level up your magic!

This book is truly amazing. While I was reading it, my wife, who is a magic enthusiast, peeked over my shoulder and remarked, "That book looks really visually attractive. We all have had the experience. We wait anxiously for the “newest” book, reading the advertising hype, and finally receiving it. Often the disappointment hits us in the first hour of reading. We have all faced this “buyer’s remorse” not long after unpacking the book from its postal box.
I have a lot of books. In fact, between magic and books for my work as a professor, I own over 15,000 books in my personal library (it’s a sickness). I have felt this disappointment too many times. What I have already learned from The Particle System, the videos, and the collected emails makes this one of the best purchases (if not the best) that I have made in the last twenty years.
The videos alone are worth the asking price. I don’t say that as an overstatement, I really mean it. If all that I had received was access to the videos, I would feel as if I had been given more than my money’s worth. With the practice app, the emails, and book, the price is a huge bargain.
Others have pointed out the great teaching from Josh, the wonderful look and feel of the book, and the comparative ease in learning the system. I can only say is that this really is a “system” and not just a new stack order. With the work in the deck, the stack, and the marks, the many things that are available to the one who will put in the time to learn the system are incredible.
Of course, as one would expect from Vanishing Inc. the book is large, beautifully printed, carefully edited, and very well organized. The color photos are clear, well organized and placed on the same page as the instructions. Each piece begins with several things that the reader will want to know (e.g., can any stack be used, does the stack remain intact, etc.)
As many of you know, Josh is an “overthinker.” While this can be a burden to some, it is a blessing to the reader. Almost every small detail has been found, carefully considered, and dealt with. These pieces are not pipedreams or things that only the author and a few others can perform. They are often classic pieces that have been reworked to make them stronger with a mem-deck.
Obviously, Josh stands on the shoulders of those who have come before him (Mike Close, Juan Tamariz, and especially Simon Aronson) and he openly thanks those whose great work has come before him. Rather than just being a re-hash of old information or tricks, this work really pushes the concept of working with a mem-deck into new territory. Between the carefully thought-out presentations, the new thoughts on the use of a mem-deck, and the ability to perform many things while keeping the stack in order, the term brilliant is not too strong an adjective to use of this system.
Too often in magic, someone has an idea in the morning and publishes it that afternoon. Rarely does a book seem that it has been carefully thought about for years, the effects performed hundreds (if not thousands) of times, and the writing carefully edited for both accuracy and clarity. All of this is true for THE PARTICLE SYSTEM. I’ve spent much more and received much less so please don’t hesitate to purchase this work. At the risk of sounding hyperbolic, it will become a classic and will be referred to for many years.

I got this book at one of Josh's Lectures and I can honestly say that this is hands down a magic book -that I pick up and can't put down. I am a part-time professional magician and always stayed away from memorized deck work because despite being a specialist in card magic I always had trouble memorizing a stack no matter what I try.
