The variant discussed at the end particularly interested me because it's NOT a book test.

There are big advantages in doing a booktest Chad’s way. It is the opposite of stuffy and formal book tests. It is freer and more relaxed in procedure and in tone, with far more audience participation. And it’s more convincing: it’s a real book that’s torn up. Set-up is thus minimal. There’s no expensive book that too often is phony-looking. The selection process is logical and looks very open and fair: nothing sneaky needs to be done to change what was selected or to peek it. There’s no magician’s guilt as the move is simple and very well concealed. There is no technology that could malfunction. There is no memory work (beyond remembering the word!). The word selected can easily be changed for the next performance. There is great freedom for customised patter, and there is freedom in the reveal. (I’m not a fan of the dictionary reveal, but there is scope for gags.) My initial thought was four stars: I wasn’t knocked over. However, the longer I thought about it, the clearer its unique advantages became.

Usable.
Spineless (Chad Long)
I am not reviewing Spineless by Chad Long because I am not a fan of book/word effects. That does not mean they are bad but simply that I avoid them because they are not my style. However, I do think a beginner could pick this up quick.
Klink (Rune Klan)
I like Klink. I am not good with coin effects or routines, but I am a fan of coin magic, nonetheless. Rune has a great personality; it made me smile. His patter is natural (if he has a patter) and not written down. I have done coin magic like Hopping Halves and Scotch and Soda but other than that I have strictly been a card worker. However, I am just beginning in coin magic, and have a set of Chinese coins to work with, I will certainly try this effect (with different patter). This trick is doable by beginners after practice but not too bad if you have worked with coins.
Tivo 2.0 (Dan and Dave Buck)
I do not know much about Dan and Dave other than the fact that they are skilled magicians (or artists) who have been around for a while and can produce great looking magic. Tive 2.0 looks great. The trick here looks great also. I would say this trick will take some practice (in my opinion), I will try it.

Great explanation and great use for my next shows!

The one thing I would like to add it that people may think that you saw the first word. If you can find a page with only a few big words you can have them think of a long word and do a MOABT style book test.
I love a trick that fools me when I see it. Great job Chad!
"Spineless" is a great idea, easy to perform, and CAN yield a stunning moment. If you watch Chad's explanation video for "Spineless" and want to perform it, I recommend you use Roget's International Thesaurus, because the reference numbers in that book are better-suited to the reveal he describes.
Meanwhile, the main reason for posting this review is to remind fans of Vanishing Inc. Magic that choosing the correct VOLUNTEER is critical in most tricks. Joshua Jay explains some elements of this in his amazing "Six Impossible Things." When I performed this trick for a gathering of about 30 teachers and their spouses, I learned the hard way that not everyone is suited to be your volunteer. I showed the "random page" as you'll see Chad Long do in the video, and asked the volunteer to silently read and memorize the first word on that page. "Do you have it?" I asked. "Yes, I have it," she replied. But by the time I got to the point where I ask her to tell everyone her word, she said, "Uhh... I didn't actually get it." I recovered by showing her the page again, but as you can imagine, the WOW of the trick was deflated...
I am already thinking of different material props that would add interest. Thank you for supportin Ukraine
You can use any written literature (a map, a dictionary or whatever).
There are so many books you can choose from. I also like the fact that several members of the audience participate in the performance during the act. It seems it would add to the overall excitement of the crowd. The patter makes perfect sense as well. It would be very fun to try this out with a group in the near future.
