Conover

Tim Conover is considered by experts to be a once-in-a-generation performer. His high-energy mentalism and sleight-of-hand prowess earned him adoration from lay audiences and magicians alike.
Tragically, in February of 2011, Tim passed away. Not wanting Tim’s work to be forgotten, Tim’s sister contacted his close friend, Eric Mead, and asked him to memorialize Tim’s work. Thanks to their hard work, we are honored to present Conover.
As Eric puts it in the foreword, “What is here is all of the material he used to make his living as a highly paid and busy professional.” Across the over 500 pages, you’ll find magic and mentalism of the highest caliber. There is no filler or half-baked effects. Every single piece is considered with a laser-like attention to detail.
In Volume 1, you’ll find Tim’s professional magic repertoire, consisting of thirteen pieces of classic magic plots created with the highest attention to detail. While each piece is fantastic, some of our favorites include Tim’s “Shot Glass Apparition”, which is one of the best shot glass productions of all time, and “The Bending Coins”, which fooled some of the greatest minds in our industry. Every piece is explained in detail with dozens of photos and includes all the intricacies that make them so incredibly powerful. Most importantly, you’ll learn about Tim, how he thought about magic, and how you can take his lessons to improve your magic.
Volume 2 contains Tim’s highly acclaimed mentalism work. Tim made a name for himself as a corporate mentalist, and after reading his material, you’ll understand how talented he truly was. Inside are versions of classic mentalism plots like Koran’s Medallion, spoon bending, and a drawing duplication. You’ll also find Tim’s incredible signature pieces like his “Eyeless Vision”, where, despite being blindfolded, he can see objects placed into his palm, his highly deceptive Q&A routine that uses a crystal ball, and the most deceptive Center Tear ever constructed. These are incredibly powerful mentalism pieces, any one of which would be a reputation-making effect.
For Volume 3, you’ll learn Tim’s legendary work on his favorite effect: John Ramsay’s “Cylinder and Coins”. At the time of his death, he had almost completed a book exploring the plot. Unlike the other volumes, the writing is directly from Tim, and the photos are his own hands performing the routines. Tim teaches six different versions, ranging from his variation on Ramsay’s original to the completely reimagined version performed by Eric Mead on Penn & Teller: Fool Us. Each version has its own strengths, but all are taught in intricate detail by Tim. This is a masterclass in how to truly focus on an effect and perfect it.
Conover is a legacy of a magician who left us too soon. Throughout the books are countless stories from friends and family about him. Reading these stories gives you a glimpse into Tim, his character, and, of course, the way he viewed magic.
Books like this come once in a generation, and Vanishing Inc. has not taken this lightly. We have worked closely with Eric Mead and the Conover family to produce this stunning, three-volume book set, complete with slipcase. This is our highest-quality book production to date, befitting the exemplary writing, photos, and, most importantly, magic.
In Tim’s honor, Vanishing Inc. has set up a scholarship for young magicians, and we have donated copies of these books to major magic libraries across the globe. Eric has spent over a decade on this book set, and we’re incredibly excited to share it.
Deluxe Editions are limited to one per customer. All 500 copies of the deluxe version are now sold out.

Having said that, there are a few important things worth noting. Firstly, there isn't much card material in the set. There's a chapter at the end of Volume 1 detailing a few ideas and a Chapter in Volume 2 on Conover's Dream Deck, but otherwise there is no material outside of Volume 4 (which many, myself included, were unable to get). Given that these books were meant to contain all of Conover's professional material, several promotional videos mentioned card material, and many images in the books themselves include a deck of cards spread on the table, I can't help but feel like something is missing for us card-lovers. I truly hope that at least some of Conover's material on the memorized deck is made available in some form. On the other hand, if you like coin magic Volume 1 will be a real treat!
Additionally, I want to draw attention to the Crystal Ball Q&A in Volume 2. The method described for the part of the routine that involves a participant divining the information themselves is clearly different than the one used in the video of Conover performing it on Vanishing Inc's YouTube page. It's not hard to try to come up with alternative methods for that part of the routine, but if you bought the books after watching that video, wanting to learn exactly what you saw, you will be disappointed.
Overall, this collection is well worth the $300 cost, but I think it's important to know these things going into it.
Community questions about Conover
Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.
Louis asks: Does Vanishing Inc have regrets about how they've handled this so far? The distribution of this material really needs to be rethought overall. The Memorized deck stuff would have probably outsold all other volumes combined, if available as an individual release. You should sell separate volumes of each of the 4 books. I don't understand why that would be an issue. What's your thinking on the marketing of this material?
- 1. Carlos responds:Agree!
- 2. HARRY responds:Il be honest I have the 4th vOlume and it's nothing special
Michael asks: Any plans to release contents of vol. 4 in future. Waited years for Eric Mead to finish and release these books and missed the deluxe edition before it was sold out.
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:At the moment we have no plans to release Vol 4 separately
Andrew asks: Instead of deleting valid points, perhaps VI should consider how they are going to get rid of their remaining stock.
- 1. HARRY responds:There deleting my questions. Nothing with profanity or being mean. Just an honest review I am trying to post to personally say I do not believe it's worth the cost. This is what happens when you mix an art form with business
HARRY asks: Why do you not let me write a review?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:You can only publish reviews if the product has been purchased through Vanishing Inc
Michael asks: By the time I was able to order the Deluxe Set was sold our. I purchased the Standard Edition, have received and am vey happy with what I've gone through so far. But I am not happy about not having the material in Volume 4 which is one of my main interests. Doesn't seem right to me. Can it's contents at least be available for a price as a pdf or something?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Unfortunately this was only available in the deluxe version
Chadwick asks: Tim's cups and ball s routine is also taught in volume 1 (Magic), but it's not listed in the contents on the website.
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:We'll get that updated!
Rich asks: This looks like an amazing set of books. I know the deluxe set is sold out, is the regular set a limited run as well?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:We hope to keep it around, but the first pressing is likely to sell out.
Jay asks: Will the separate volumes ever be sold? For example, maybe someone only wants the Mentalism volume...
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:At the moment we have no plans to sell separate volumes
Jackson asks: Will any copies be available at Magi-Fest?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:This depends on the stock we have remaining at the time
Gareth asks: Will there be an ebook version (like other VI published books)?
- 1. David responds:I wonder the same. I keep seeing in the site that "All VI books are available as ebooks", but that's not actually accurate...
- 2. Shaun responds:Oh I hope they aren't going to be an E-Download. This will definitely be a detriment to Tim's Legacy and to the hard work Eric has put into it.
- 3. Gareth responds:I don't see how it would be a detriment... Sounds like snobbery. Boring at best.
- 4. Roger responds:I also believe that VANISHING said that all books they publish themselves are also available as an eBook. It’s therefore all the more disappointing that this promise doesn’t seem to be upheld in this case.
- 5. Charlie responds:I saw a comment their instagram that these will only be physical
