Eugene Burger: From Beyond

In 2017 magic lost one of its brightest lights: Eugene Burger. Astonishingly, a new book has emerged that celebrates Eugene's storied career, and delves into parts of his repertoire NEVER explored during his life.
Before his passing, Eugene expressed to Larry Hass that he wanted to produce a book that shared many things that were never shared before. This book delves into Eugene's routine for the Spirit Slates (one of his most effective pieces on stage) as well as his handling for Gypsy Thread (the most iconic Burger piece).
You'll find this book is partly a celebration of life and partly an in-depth examination of his material. Authored by his close friend and acclaimed writer Larry Hass, this is a MUST-HAVE new work. We will be carefully studying this important volume, and we encourage you to do the same.
There are 17 routines, ranging from Parlor, Platform, Stage, and Spirit Theater.
- Thirteen at Dinner
- Shotglass Surprise
- Gypsy Thread
- The Spot Card
- Greed
- The Paper Hat Mystery
- Visible Block Penetration
- Voodoo Poker
- The Last Dream
- Retribution
- The Haunted Bell
- Trusting Fate
- Ouija
- Something from Nothing
- Facing Fears
- Automatic Writing
- Dr. Slade and the Night Visitors
Customer reviews for Eugene Burger: From Beyond
The explanations are clear and have Eugenes full scripts. The book itself is well produced and the layout inside is lovely. There’s lots to love about this book. Highly recommended
While I was perusing Vanish Inc's book offerings, I came across Eugene Burger: From Beyond. Naturally, my interest was peaked and as I read the description I was saddened to learn Eugene Burger had passed away some years ago, hence the title of this book. If you know anything about the Doctor Who series, the TARDIS is small on the outside (the size of a street telephone booth), but it's insanely huge on the inside. This book is just like a TARDIS. It's bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It contains 15 of Eugene's parlor, stage and spirit theater routines and you get a link to access audio and video material of many of his performances. I think this alone is worth the price of this book.
When I was a kid, one of the first tricks I bought was "Six-Card Repeat". Even as a beginner of magic, I was disappointed at the construction method and how the trick was done. When I got older, I realized how lame the trick actually was when performed. "Thirteen at Dinner" has a six-card repeat vibe, but in the hands of Eugene Burger I found his performance intriguing and I was pleasantly surprised at his unexpected and kicker ending.
This book not only contains Eugene's previously unpublished work, it also takes the reader through his scripting process for each piece. In the hands of a true Grand Master, the simplest of effects are transformed into engaging and magical works of art. If you don't have this book, I strongly urge you to purchase it before the only place you can find one is on the secondary market at an exorbitant price.
