This book takes a unique approach that I haven’t seen in other card magic books. It encourages you to think about the how before diving into the method. If you're looking for fully scripted patter for each trick, you won’t find it here—but that works for me, as I enjoy creating my own storylines.

I ordered the deluxe edition and was pleasantly surprised to find it included a deck of False Anchors Midnight Playing Cards. I had previously asked customer support whether the cards were included, and they said no—so the inclusion was an unexpected bonus. Considering the quality of both the book and the deck, the deluxe package offers excellent value.

Those who love fooling impossible location effects - which is the majority of what you'll find in these pages - will find much to like in Midnight Sessions. The methods are indeed clever, fooling, and in many cases quite fresh. Be forewarned, though: the vast majority of effects in here cannot be done with any ordinary deck. A couple of entries do use one, but mostly, you'll be dealing with methods that require decks which have a 'special something' to them. Sometimes that 'special something' is fairly small and easy to work with/around, and other times it's as complicated as a single-trick deck that you won't be able to use for any other tricks. If you don't mind that sort of thing, you'll enjoy this book and the thinking within. I don't think I'll use 95% of the material here, but your mileage may vary.

This book is a clever mix of deceptive card magic and mystery. The effects feel impossible with the given conditions, but once you learn the smart methods behind them, you will be surprised. These effects are taught through fictional midnight sessions that make it fun to read. The methods are smart and well thought out, often fooling even magicians. Most effects include multiple versions or methods, so you can pick what suits your style best. You'll also learn several clever principles and genius ways to apply them. It’s a great resource for those who enjoy figuring out magic deeply and creatively. If you think you can figure out the methods easily, read the conditions and think again.

I do not understand why there are still Deluxe edition's available. I own a thousand books. This is the most beautiful book that I own. It is so well done.

I was Really was looking forward to this book and yes there is good stuff in there, but my biggest problem was you can only perform a couple of tricks with a normal deck and as he states it's not sure fire, the rest of the effects you will Need to purchase other types of decks to pull it off, like i said there is good stuff there but I personally want to pick up any regular deck and be ready to work.

If only all magic books were this fun to read. I read through it over a couple evenings and it has definitely opened me up to new ideas. Very cool.

    • 1. Unnamed responds:The difficulty level is beginner level. Almost none of the effects use any sleights. The effects in the book are principle-driven, for the most part.

  • Robert asks: I'm unfamiliar with The Unnamed magician's work, but from what I can tell, a lot of effects are impossible card locations. Is there a variety of different effects in this collection, or variations on principles?

    • 1. Unnamed responds:You are correct in that there are many card location effects. But there are other effects too, such as a pseudo-memorization effect, a prediction effect and over-the-phone telepathy effects (such as the “Mr. Wizard” plot). As for the card location effects, they use various new and / or unknown principles. The principles are also explained separately in the form of essays (scattered throughout the book) so that the reader can use them to create their own effects (meaning, they are not restricted to just the card locations taught in the book).
