Second Wind from Asi Wind takes the sleight-free, simple beginner tricks we all started magic with and transforms them into modern miracles that will fool even the most knowledgeable magicians.

Don't let the deliberately vintage design fool you—while Asi lovingly emulates the classic typewriter fonts and hand-drawn illustrations of old beginner books, the content within represents cutting-edge magical thinking. The contents of the book are beginner tricks reimagined through the lens of a master craftsman.

Asi’s approach is so smart: he takes familiar effects and layers them with multiple methods and principles, creating magic so deceptive that audiences simply have to give up trying to figure it out.

Second Wind captures the charm of vintage magic books with its compact, pocket-sized format—small enough to carry anywhere while remaining perfectly readable.

Customer reviews for Second Wind

Steven
I'm a big fan of Asi Wind's work, but was a little disappointed when "Second Wind" arrived. It's a very small, thin volume that looks nothing like Asi's other material. Thankfully, however, this product is a masterclass in not judging a book by its cover. The collected effects are all fantastic. Each is practical, fooling, and easy to perform. The closing chapter, talking readers through how we ought to think about adapting routines, is also extremely worthwhile.

For those who, like, me, will be initially disappointed to see that they spent $40 on such a thin volume, consider it like this: If you take the seven tricks and closing essay as one-offs, it's $5 a chapter. And I suspect anyone who reads "Second Wind" will agree that that's a great deal.

For the price this is a small Mass Market Paperback size I hesitate to call it a book at 69 pages. It is printed on moderately heavy paper which does not open without cracking the spine I expect that after normal use the pages will separate from the spine like happens with some of the Dover Reprints and will fall out. For $40 I expected a properly bound book of normal size. If I had known I would not have purchased it the recycled tricks are available in many books for under $20 that contain many more tricks and 3 or 4 times the page count. Something similar has happened a few times in the past year normal hardbacked price for a paperback book. I am going to have to be more skeptical if it does not say hardbacked with the dimensions. I am buying more frequently from eBay and other used book sites I can get full size hardbacks with a dust jacket by well respected magicians for often less than a new book. I am a collector and Paperback books have no collector value I would have preferred larger pages and Comb bound.

This is a very small very short paperback that should have been priced at $20 -25.
I think this is overpriced and a disappointment. Sorry, I usually love all of ASI’s items

I love the idea of taking fairly standard, beginner level card magic and elevating it with professional-grade techniques, subtleties, psychological touches, and refinements. Asi Wind knows how to punch a trick up into a total miracle, and he manages that in this slim volume of accessible card magic that he's made from serviceable to stellar.

Too expensive for what it is. Much smaller than expected. Disappointed with what looks like the use of AI for cover art, and while it’s passed off as a design feature, it doesn’t feel like too much care was taken over the layout. As you’d expect, there are some nice ideas but it’s a £10 pamphlet being sold as a £30 book.
