This book is by Dai Vernon’s teacher. His piano teacher, that is. In the late 60s, Ray taught Vernon piano in exchange for magic lessons. As a result, Ray’s magic and thinking show evidence of Vernon’s touch.

The Punch Letters is Ray Grismer’s best tricks, methods, and ideas for using a punch. A punch is quite simply a tactile marking on the back of a card. It can be made with a pinprick, or a special punch device — but most people find the low-tech approach to be best. Although the concept is widely used by card experts, there is a scarcity of published information on how to work with a punched card effectively. Ray Grismer’s book is a forgotten classic.

The book is written in the style of a series of letters between two magicians, so reading it feels like you’re getting personal lessons directly from a master. While punch deal work often requires a second deal, Ray has included ideas that do not require any false deals. In fact, some of his routines are self-working, and some don’t use cards at all! Included are poker routines, a bridge deal (including a variation from Vernon himself), blackjack routines, mentalism with cards, and a Pseudo-Psychometry routine.

This book is available in limited quantities. While this item is unused, it was printed in 1988 and may show signs of age. Don’t miss your chance to own one!

Customer reviews for The Punch Letters

Erik
I will confess that I’ve only skimmed this, and probably won’t get back to it any time soon. It’s not a skill that’s currently high on my list, yet I know I’ll come back here when I want to add it to my repertoire. And while I prefer to learn by watching, this looks like it’ll be a great resource. And it’s by Dai Vernon’s (piano) teacher, so that’s reason enough to want a copy!
