Phantom Deck

Trick by Joshua Jay (29.99)

In stock.

Imagine at the end of your close-up performance, you cause every card in the deck to turn TOTALLY TRANSPARENT...in the SPECTATOR’S HANDS! Imagine no more—the Phantom Deck is here.

Building on the notion of the popular Omni Deck, The Phantom Deck is an entire pack of transparent, clear cards. When held together, they look, feel, cut, and shuffle like a normal deck...except that every single card is transparent. This allows you to make visual or surprise changes from a normal deck to an “invisible” deck of cards...yet it’s an invisible pack your spectators can touch and spread and feel.

The sides of the deck have been fuse-heat treated in white so they perfectly resemble a normal pack of cards. With one cover card on top, you can place the deck in a spectator’s hands, and she will be unable to feel the difference between the Phantom Deck and a normal pack.

The Phantom Deck comes with a link to a special URL with a full online tutorial.

Since publishing the Phantom Deck, two new credit developments have come to light. Luis de Matos, my esteemed friend, used the same concept (he called it the Crystal Deck) in 1987. And Darius Ziatabari and Lee Hathaway published an effect called The Crystal Method several years prior to the Phantom Deck, and one of the suggested uses was something quite similar to the Phantom Deck.

IMPORTANT
The material used to create Phantom Deck may be prone to light scratches. This is completely normal and will not impact your ability to perform the effect.

I hope Joshua Jay never stops inventing new ways to leave the public with their mouths open. Phantom Deck does not disappoint. It's basically what you imagine and what you can see in the trailer, but after watching the tutorial a new world of possibilities and applications open up before you. Furthermore, combined with Prism Plus, for example, the options multiply. It's absolutely brilliant!

Another brilliant idea Josh. Another closer. Yeay. Very cool.

This phantom deck is an amazing piece of utility and with the demo and teachings by Josh opens up a plethora of opportunities to spice up the endings of any routine. The in depth tutorial is crisp and concise and gives in a lot of material ideas that a performer can tweak to their needs.

So, I just ordered the Phantom Deck, and waiting for delivery. While waiting, I took the time to watch the provided tutorial. I can't wait for this to arrive and put it to use. There are so many opportunities where this can be utilized. I'm eager to begin working out ways to implement the Phantom Deck into routines.

I bought the Phantom Deck, learned a great deck switch (from Robert Giobbi's The Art of Switching Decks) and now I use it as a closer that always gets applause and is talked about after the show. The one thing I add due to the way I do a deck switch is I have the volunteer sign the card (plus I let them keep the card as a souvenir).

Reviewer

Louis

Fooled me until I saw the tutorial, then I thought... how could I not have known this all along? It's so simple. The "move" is simple and has a reason behind it. The misdirection happens almost automatically and voila- when the spectator opens their hands, the deck has turned invisible. There is also an advanced version of the trick that requires some basic sleight of hand (what you see in the demo video is the basic version). The best thing to do is to use your deck of cards to show several tricks. Then, after the audience has seen and handled the deck, you do the Phantom Deck trick which makes it more mind blowing.

This is such an incredible piece of magic with multiple uses. Joshua Jay has a wonderful ability to teach and make clear all the moves necessary to learn the secrets for your performance. The deck switch moves are well thought out, and he shows how do to it smoothly. He also shows how you can combine the Phantom Deck with an Omni deck.

The best form of instruction for magic since my 1st Tannen catalog back pages. Clear and to the point with tons of extra content and presentation ideas. Took the instruction from the point of view of a single effect to the insertion into a complete routine.

Concise and Clear (pardon the pun) explanation... I LOVE the Phantom Deck! There are so many ways to use it, buy my favorite is as a kicker to the 'invisible deck' routine. After revealing the one card that's reversed in the deck, I remove it and hold it up to show the card, and with a quick back-palm, show that the card has once again become invisible. I bring the card back with a quick snap and hand it to the person who selected the card, inviting them to turn the card invisible for themself. While they're focusing on the card, I do a quick deck change and then ask them to return the card into the (phantom) deck, with my hands covering the top and bottom so that the exact location of the card can't be seen. I then ask them to put their hands out and give the deck to them (keeping it covered), inviting them to try to find the card for themselves this time. When they remove their hands and look down they'll find that all of the cards have become 'invisible' again... except for one card... their card! Thanks again, I'm so happy that I purchased The Phantom Deck!

The phantom deck just fries people always liked the omni deck but this deck takes it to a all new level and you know with when Josh fetches something out it is going to be good and it is so easy to perform that anyone can do it so upgrade your omni deck and get this you will not be disappointed and the service you get with Vaninc is second to none highly recommended.

The Phantom deck is a superb ending to your ACR !!!
I've changed the patter I use for the Omni deck, to suit the ending for the Phantom deck.
But this is a tiny thing.!
Especially when you consider having the openness, and feeling of complete fairness, of placing their signed card openly in the middle of the deck in full view.!!! 10/10.!!!

This effects mimics a very strong and classic effect in magic but makes it even better by allowing the spectators to see that the thing they're holding are indeed real cards and have turned invisible. I am a fan of Joshua Jay and this effect absolutely hits hard everytime it is performed.

This actually looks and feels like a deck of playing cards in a spectator’s hands. And love the fact that the cards are a bit uneven on the edges as it adds as a convincer of them holding cards rather of having them all flush. Great product and a fantastic AC routine finale.

I can not give this product enough praise. I now have 2. It is well made and lasted me a long time. This is a true worker! I use this to close my ambitious card routine and people freak out. This creates magic in the spectators hands and it is amazing.

I've switched from the Omni Deck into the Phantom deck. This is a brain melter for the public. The Omni deck on a rare occasion I would run into a spectator who can feel that the deck is no longer a deck before the vanish happens. With the Phantom Deck, the cards really still feel like cards and the words of every single card disappearing makes more sense. Instead of making a deck vanish, you're making 52 pieces of card disappear which sounds better and harder in my opinion

What more can I add to the many reviews praising the Phantom Deck? I give it a big thumbs up! This a wonderful alternative to the omni deck. Easy to do too. Jay's instructional video is thorough, and you'll perform this quickly after watching the video.

Startling to spectators !

I highly recommend it.

This one is a real worker AND a real WINNER! My take/move on it is to use during a contactless routine is The Cardini Snap Change that brings the section to the bottom of the deck in two moments. After the showing of up to half of the deck of Phantoms, I perform a Paddle Move with the bottom half of the Phantoms. That way when the deck is put together. the selection is now in the middle of the deck for the second reveal.

Just adding another 5 star review to this amazing piece along with all the others. A lot of people compare this to the Omni deck and while you are doing one or the other in a gig or close-up set, after working with it quite a bit, it has a different feel to it when you peel off single cards from the top enough for me to say it's different on it's own. Just a masterpiece.

Not sure why, but I've never been so much into the Omni deck. I just bought this because it was on a sale, and only after I bought it that I realized the main difference from the Omni deck, and for that I am really glad that I bought it. What I loved about it is that after the spectator returns his card to the deck, you are already clean.

When you can see all these big magic stars perform Phantom Deck all the time on TV, stage, close up …, etc, you know that it is a great trick. The quality of the gimmick is beyond excellent. When you cover the top and bottom, the Phantom Deck looks just like a regular deck, even when you look at it closely. This is not like regular transparencies. The material used is very good and thick, so the entire deck will last you a lifetime. You can even shuffle the “cards”. The teaching is excellent as well, because Joshua Jay is a great teacher. I own most of his products, including books. The way he explains things is just very easy to understand and follow.

Some time ago, I remember seeing a magician performing it on TV, and he put a signed card in the middle. As he riffled the phantom deck, the real card slowly appeared. Everyone just went crazy at that moment. That is when I decided to buy this. I am also planning to use it with an omni deck to make it more magical for my audience. There are many ways to use the deck. It is true that you are only limited to your own imagination.

Extremely visual and baffling magic. Good as an opener or a closer, a very well thought substitute for the Omni deck. The reactions are amazing, people won’t believe their eyes after seeing the “vanish” of the deck. The video download included is also very good, even a beginner could master the moves

Very beginning magician here. Used the phantom deck at a New Year's Eve party as the closer of a small set just as recommended in the instruction video. Participant selected a card, I switched decks. When the deck went clear people screamed with surprise!

The Phantom Deck is the perfect closer for your close up or strolling set. I work the corporate market only and this 1 effect gets the most reaction and applause from groups that actually attracts people from other parts of the room as to whats going on and is a great advertisement for your next group or for call backs etc. Its simple, clean nad a real worker of an effect. It closes all my sets and cannot be topped as a finale. Obviously lots of fun & humour help[ during a routine Ive performed thousands of times.Highly recommended. Never ever had a problem with people in regards to the white edging etc

I'm Soooo glad I scored this for $15 Black Friday deal...I haven't received my deck yet but just watched the download. There are no set in stone full routines taught, but that's not the purpose of this fine prop. It's meant to get the wheels turning in your brain on how you can incorporate this into your routine. Josh goes over different deck switches and some basic routine ideas, including a fantastic one from Andi including an omni deck and a nice idea to pair it with Joshs' Prism deck routine. I'm not sure if it's ok to share a routine I've been brainstorming over, but I'll post it anyway. We are all magicians here anyway, right???. I'm going to close with the Phantom but I'm going to do a basic 4-5 phase ambitious card where I finish with the pop rise of their bent card appearing on top. Whilst they look, I will turn and do the switch. Here's where I'm excited to see how this is might play out. I'm going to incorporate David Stones Tool in an interesting way to make the deck 'vanish' and go clear. This will be the last phase of the ACR. With a dummy card on top of Tool I will top switch their card with the top card and do a double, showing their card. I will take the double and insert 'their' card into the center of the deck saying I will make it instantly appear on top. I will show it to them one last time while sticking half way out by bending it up before I push it in. As an afterthought I will remove the top dummy card of the double after I've secretly shoved their card in. I'll say ' just kidding, that's too difficult', and take 'their' card and place it on top of the deck. Here's the moment their ??'s get fried. Without tipping TOOL, I put the deck in their hand and do the TOOL move to reveal their card is gone and the deck has vanished as well. I might secretly flip the deck over as I show a few single cards and then reveal their card with the the freaky slow fade of their signed face up card appearing in the center. I can't wait to try this out, I think it will slay! I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from you Josh and Andi. I'm only a hobbyist card guy who does magic for my nieces, nephews and my restaurant co-workers, but with complete humility, I'm Reallllly excited to try this out and I hope it was ok to post this here, I just wanted to share my idea with other Phantom deck owners and those on the fence about it. I'm certain the Phantom deck will drop jaws and fully endorse it ??. I think it could play really well for those who own TOOL??.... Just my 2 cents and I hope you all consider trying this idea!!!!
Cheers!!!!

Really nice! I'm excited to use it.

When I saw the trailer, I was really baffled when the covered card vanished under Jay's palm. The technique, as explained, is simple but so clever. (In the part where Jay "riffled" to turn deck invisible, he executed a pass, didn't he? I think the sleight, whatever it was, should have been mentioned.) I think I will try a reveal using the slap in which only the selected card will stay between spectator's figertips.

this deck is very cool. I have always been an Omni deck guy, and even rolled my eyes at the phantom deck a time or two before I finally gave it an honest shot. Now that I have, I'm glad I did. I'm still not so sure its miles above the omni deck, but audience reactions will be the deciding factor. over all, I'm happy I finally gave this a shot.

It uses a similar premise to that of the Omni Deck, where a deck of cards becomes transparent. The advantage of this over the omni deck is that at the end of the routine you can spread the cards and they all become transparent instead of a solid clear block.
Joshua uses a super method where as you spread the deck, the card that has previously been selected appears to visibly materialise in the middle of the transparent deck.
Be sure to check out how Josh incorporates it with Dan White’s “‘lit” on “the Better Show”.

Pros
The ‘change” is ultra surprising and visual.
Resets instantly
Can be performed in any surroundings.
It’s self working.

Cons
You need to carry an additional deck of cards.

Reviewer

Bryan

This is the second deck I've got of these. (Let someone else buy the last deck as they needed it for a show ASAP). I've used these a few times and it's always gotten gasps when the cards are "gone". They are good quality and do work well with an o**i deck.

Reviewer

Steven

If you are only gonna carry one gimmicked deck for your EDC make it this. This is great by itself or also as the final phase in your ambitious card routine. This is worth the money one hundred percent.

Reviewer

Steven

This is a great phase to my ambitious card or just by itself. Think about it like the Omni deck but on crack. The actual deck itself is hard to shuffle due to the clumping of the cards. Definitely not for cardistry but that's ok because the spectators are blown away when they see the cards. There are a few ways that you could reach the climax. I like to make it seem like I fail the first time then lift up their hands and show them the deck.

Dan

The Phantom Deck effect not only looks great, but is also really easy to do - I first saw Joshua Jay perform this trick on a clip from a TV show I saw on YouTube and I expected some difficult sleight of hand, but it couldn't be easier - without giving too much away, it's partly done on the off beat and partly in plain sight.

I was performing this less than an hour after receiving it and have never had to go back to the instructions. This is a great trick for walkaround and table hopping, especially as a follow-up to another card trick or two.

The effect gets great results and while it's not exactly done in the spectators hands, it is done with their participation, and right under their nose.

The gimmick is really well made (and quite clever in construction), is very believable (nobody will see this coming) and should last you a long time. My only concern or negative about this, is that it's a one trick pony and does take up some valuable pocket space, however, with that said, I do use it.

All up, this is a purchase I am very happy with and happy to recommend to others.

Great effect, better alternative for Omni Deck, can be done on close-up or on stage. I started using it instead of Omni Deck, it’s better I think. Every card turns transparent except the spectators chosen card.

Phantom Deck, brillian, this deck is poker size deck, it feels great using this deck, even the edges of the phantom cards have been specially designed with white edges, to make it look like a normal deck of cards, it also comes with two very good videos on how to use this phantom deck.

My favorite closer, I've been performing this for over 2 years now. I personally like it more than the Omni deck because your spectators see every card as an Omni (invisible object). Both parlor and close up should get you great reactions.

The tutorial video quality is great and Josh shares some more ideas on how it can be performed - apart from what you see in the trailer.

Josh knocked it out of the park with this one!

Reviewer

Paul

This looks awesome! This could be used in conjunction with the Invisible Deck. For example, here's how I would routine this: hand the Phantom Deck to a spectator in a white (or clear!) box, have them go through the Phantom Deck and "select" one of the cards (of course, they actually THINK of a card, but it's a fun way to get them to handle the deck in their hands), then have them turn over their "selected" card and insert into the middle of the deck. The spectator puts it all back in the box and then tosses it back to you from the audience. In the process of catching the deck in midair, do a deck-switch to a real Bicycle deck (the actual Invisible Deck). Then, go through the standard presentation of revealing their card. Just a thought!

This is absolutely amazing I got mine about 2 years ago and have got some amazing reactions with it. This is truly amazing this is the only omni deck type routine I've ever done and I don't see a need for any other kind. The ending with the card inside gets crazy reactions. Killer effect great job Mr. Jay

The Phantom Deck is Joshua Jay's take on the well-known Omni Deck plot. What makes Josh's so unique is opposed to just having a glass block in the spectators hand they now hold 52 individual clear plastic cards, and in the middle is their signed card! You can almost feel the tension after the spectator sees all the cards are clear and you spread through the deck slowly revealing that one card has not turned clear. It's really something that you have to see live to understand just how powerful it is. Another reason this is so great is because, as I've explained before more tangible you magic is the more connection your audience feels with it. In this trick, the audience supposedly feels the exact moment when the cards go from a normal deck to completely clear. Audible gasp's prove that doing magic in the spectators cans creates such a better reaction than if you were to make the deck clear!
Included is a well taught instant download, and the deck of clear cards. The one complaint I've heard from many is that the sides of the deck don't look like real cards. While it's true that it does look quite white and uneven, no spectator in the world will ever notice this. They are far too busy being mine blown that deck of cards turned clear. The last thing on their mind is "is it just me or is that card look a little bit off" of course they're off it's a deck of clear cards!

Overall, Phantom Deck is a winner, it's one of my favorite tricks to perform and a part of my walk around set. A good rule of thumb is: if it has Joshua Jay's name on it it's probably a good trick!

So I pretty much completely knew the entire trick from the trailer except for one small thing- the card vanish at the end. So I bought it. Killer trick with killer reactions. Great job once again Josh. What I like to do is use this in combo with the PRISM deck, where I do the ace location described, the deck color change, and then I have someone pick a card and then transfer right into the Phantom Deck routine. Great job once again.

It's been about seven years ago when someone showed me an Omni deck routine with single card sleeves. All cool but they seemed to handle terribly due to the thinness and flexibility, although carrying an extra feature: being able to put a selection inside. Maybe something to add to this in the future, but this is one hell of an amazing deck of plastic cards. Well done!

It is a very good tool. I don't like to call it a "trick" because in my opinion more than that, it's just another element of a complete routine. It is great to combine with the Omni deck, or with Cooler or Cold case to perform the deck change necessary for this trick. There are variations of it everywhere but they usually result in a deck of white cards minus the chosen card. The fact that in this case they are transparent is much more surprising to the spectator, who may have never seen such a card before. The materials are magnificent and Joshua's explanation, although cursory and brief, I think covers what is necessary although it is true that the quality of the recording can much more than be improved.

Reviewer

Phantom Deck is a solid effect. The reason I didn’t give it excellent, is because it just doesn’t get as good reactions as Omni Deck does. It’s still great though! The thing I like about Phantom deck though is that you can push their card into a “deck of cards” and they won’t assume you don’t have cards. But it is a really good effect though. I guess again my only downside to it is that it just doesn’t feel like it gets as great reactions as Omni Deck does…

I've added this to my show and it creates complete disbelief. It's such a strange item that people have a hard time wrapping their heads around what has happened. I agree it gets scratched a little over time and a side-by-side comparison will look slightly off. However, I've not had an issue since I perform at a parlor distance. Even though I have some regular cards mixed in I've never had anyone point out the discrepancy. As long as you keep the cards in motion and don't make staring at the sides of the deck the focus you should be ok :)

If the card edges were a direct match to Bicycle and the cards were slightly more scratch resistant then I would rate this as excellent. However, don't hesitate to buy these as it's a great way to enhance your magic.

Really good, clever idea, good qulity of prop and clear explanation with some additional ideas. I give it 4 stars because quality of recording was poor with going out of focus, zooms and even in one moment strange effect show on Josh face.

Another great visual, memorable effect from Joshua Jay! Awesome way to end a card routine and make an impression. I think the normal asking price is a bit steep for the one deck that you get, but if you can get it slightly discounted, it is a no brainer. I was also hoping the cards would have a nicer, spread-cushion finish to them, but this shouldn’t affect the routines meaningfully. Overall, a great addition to the card magician’s toolbox.

Disappointing quality. Deck arrived scratched up, with cards of various sizes and discolouration down the side of the deck. Box was beat up and looked used. Vanishing Inc were excellent, as usual, and sent out an immediate replacement. However, the same problem existed with this deck also. The trick is wonderful. Combine with Greg Wilson's Cold Case for true miracles. But I'd favour a regular Omni deck as there is sadly appears to be a quality control issue here.

This purchase is said to come with "a full online tutorial" but at 19.07, Andy executes a knuckle busting pass which he neither explains nor even identifies. Being a hobbyist, I queried this but have simply been told that I can pay for a download to further explain the tutorial!! OK I can resort to You Tube for assistance but it would have been nice if Andy had shared his particular method with customers who have paid for the "full online tutorial". I note that I am not alone in drawing attention to this omission.

The box they come in says Phantom Deck on the box, much like in the product image, so you would need to place these in a new box if you were producing them in that way. We find most people slip them into performance without a box.
    • 2. John answers: Easy as they are signing the card you switch to the phantom deck in the other pocket. DONE JOHN WILLIAMS WELSH WIZARD
  • David asks: Do we have to furnish a regular deck of cards for the trick or is a regular or gimmicked deck come along with the clear cards. Also small hands makes me ask if there is palming involved. I assume there is.

    • 1. Todd answers: You will need your own deck to do some effects first. Eventually, you would have a card selected by a spectator and then switch in the Phantom Deck so all the cards except for their selection become clear. Joshua teaches you how to bring the Phantom Deck into play in a way where no palming is necessary.
    • 2. Steven answers: I have the original phantom deck which I love. I also have small hands which handling cards has never been a problem. Best
    • 3. SGKYDUYEN answers: The phantom deck comes with a pack of clear cards and an online instruction. You can do this trick without palming so the small hand doesn't matter.

  • Dave asks: Is the phantom deck I bought at Blackpool convention the same as you are selling now bought them off George on your stand also have the originals when 1st released

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: We always try and improve products when we make new batches=
  • Mark asks: Do you need to carefully clean the transparent cards often? Do they get covered in marks/finger prints etc?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Unless you have very oily hands, the surface doesn't pick up many fingerprints. They will pick up minor scuffs with use, but my personal deck still looks great.
  • Jeffrey asks: Is this a "3.0 ish" release? By that, I mean, are the white edges better on this version than the last two (where there were some white edge issues). I have the 2.0 but would gladly buy this if it has been improved this respect. Thanks.

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: This isn't a "3.0" release, but the edges are very good in this batch!
  • Vince asks: Does the instructional video teach a deck switch that is used?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds: Yes
  • David asks: Greetings. Luv this deck! There is a move in the advanced version of the routine that is confusing. Where can I ask about that? David
