Session 1

Slow Motion Sandwich
A playing card slowly materializes from back to face.

Small Change
A pack of cards with different denominations on them are shuffled and the spectator is allowed to choose any five. You correctly predict the amount they selected.

Face Off
A partial transposition of a card where just the face travels, but not the back.

Twin Souls Variation
The spectator says stop and their selected card is turned faced up. With a snap of your fingers, the entire matching four of a kind is now face up.

Back Off
A mystery card is placed aside and you perform a small packet (three cards) ambitious card routine that ends with a mystery card kicker.

Split
A double backer is split into two Aces. You then “program” the next double backer to get the two black Aces.

Session 2

IMPORTANT
This session will focus on the creative potential of using gaff cards and gaff decks. To get the most out of the class, you will want to grab a few items that most magicians likely already own:

  • Mirage Deck (x2)
  • Svengali Deck
  • Svengali Deck with a Spot Card (2 or 4 is ideal)
  • Red/Blue Double Backer
  • Invisible Deck and Matching Double Backer
  • Regular Red Deck and Red/Red Double Backer
  • One Red Blank Deck and One Blue Blank Deck
  • Roughing Stick

Cross
Two cards distinctly marked with crosses (“X”s) on the back vanish and then sandwich the selected playing card in the deck.

Celebrity
A chosen card has the name of a celebrity on the back that a spectator was thinking of.

Mentalism vs Prediction
Instantly know which card the spectator has thought of and then show that you predicted it in advance

Lockdown
You read the spectator’s mind and divine the film, color and card they chose.

Invisible Stickman
A stick figure vanishes from one playing card and magically reappears on a thought-of playing card.

Stick Pack
Stick figures start to appear on the backs of a packet of four Aces before all jumping on to one card. Then, the stick figures appear on every card in the deck.

Lotto
Two decks with numbers on the face are shuffled. Deck one is cut into six piles, and the numbers match six chosen cards

Session 3

Signature Transpo
The name says it all for this stunning effect.

Angle Z x WOW
A corner of a playing card teleports.

WOW Split
A Five of Hearts splits into two selections (a 2H and 3H).

Blank
A multiphase routine, packed full of magic, that ends with the whole deck turning blank!

BCM (Business Card Matrix
Ink moves from corner to corner before a surprising ending where coins appear.

Empowerment
Four coins across that the spectator does in their hands

Triple C Wild Coin
Three coins are produced, travel from hand to hand, and then change into Chinese coins.

Ballz
Metal balls jump back and forth from the pocket to the hands and, as they do, they also grow in size.

BONUS Session

Excellent! When I first started Magic (60 years ago) I hated gaffed cards. I felt they were cheating and I only wanted to perform "Pure Magic". Once I learned that my Magic Heroes, Frank Garcia, Derek Dingle, Paul Curry and Dai Vernon all used Gaffed cards my attitude changed. Craig has shown that gaffed cards can do miracles that cannot be done (as cleanly or as Magical) with regular cards. Thanks for the reminder to us older Magicians and the wake up call to some younger Magicians.

Oh man!! Craig is just on fire. His thought process is next level. Taking some things all magicians have and elevating it! Love this stuff. I'm pretty excited for next week. A lot of older magicians hate the things Craig talks about because there's this idea of being "pure." (Don't get me started). But we need to remember that magic for laymen is fun, astonishing, and deceptive. These ideas Craig mentions continue to hit on each of those. Love it!

All the tricks and routines are performed live so you can see what the tricks look like and what kind of reaction they get. Excellent teaching using standard gaffed decks in ways they were not intended to be used, that most of us never thought of. Also, making up nonstandard gaffed decks to use in ways we couldn't think of. Craig Petty's brain works differently than most of us to come up with ideas that are powerful magic, yet not all that difficult to perform, though will take some time to practice.

I love the central proposal of Craig Petty's Masterclass: using the gaff cards and decks that we all have at home and giving them a special, different and surprising use. Far from the usual tricks that we know with the Svengali, Mirage and the Invisible deck, Petty offers us a series of absolutely wonderful routines. It is one of the most useful Masterclasses I have seen in a long time!

Looking to learn knuckle busting sleights with cards then do NOT watch this Masterclass! If you want to find some wonderful tricks that you will actually perform, then you have to watch this. Craig Petty is a brilliant working magician who shows you practical tricks with gaffed cards and gaffed decks. But don't think that there are no sleights to learn! The sleights taught are uncommonly easy to perform and, combined with the gaffs, make you look like a master at sleight of hand. And don't think that your stuck with the gaffs at the end of the trick. Mr. Petty shows you all you need to know on ringing in and ringing out your gaffs!

Pretty big Craig Petty fanboy right here! Putting my adoration of Petty aside... what a treat this was. Craig gives us A LOT to work with, as usual. His tutorials are detailed to the max and this was no different. I watched using the Masterclass trial but I can also easily recommend this for the single-purchase price point (I think it's $75) currently available on the site.

The Q&A at the end is also a highlight! I love that he doesn't hold back and tells it like it is. Always something I've appreciated about his style.
