I have to be honest, I forgot to turn off my masterclass for this month (I didn’t know much about Mr. Prado). Since it was available, I tuned in. To say that I was impressed is an understatement.
Where else would you hear about Noam Chomsky, Plato’s Republic, the philosophy of epistemology, the theory of invisibility, and the double lift? This is a great lecture, but those of you who only want tricks or methods should watch this with a careful eye (as opposed to a crazy eye).
Mr. Prado raises some great questions. In his desire to give his audience a tesseract (an impossible experience) he asks some very fundamental questions that could be the bedrock on which magicians can hone their craft by asking about their own magic.
After acknowledging the critical difference between not knowing how something is done and knowing that something cannot be done (as stated so well by Simon Aronson) Mr. Prado begins with his “theory of invisibility.” This is a fascinating concept (in fact Mr. Prado has an entire two-hour lecture on this one can purchase from VI). The key to our actions being “invisible” is that they match our everyday actions.
So then, we are again told to BE NATURAL. Mr. Prado takes us farther along though by asking the question of what it means to be natural and how does one determine this.
Sometimes I tell my students in advanced classes that “the questions are as important (if not more important) than the answers.” This lecture has some GREAT questions and thinking about them will help not only your magic but yourself.
