In 2006, Todd Karr created an incredibly powerful book test that used an ungimmicked copy of The Da Vinci Code.

After being off the market for years, it’s finally available once again.

Here’s what a performance looks like:

You hand your participant a completely normal copy of The Da Vinci Code. They can even provide the book themselves, or you can do this as an impromptu effect by having them pull it off the shelf at a bookstore. You have them turn to any page and focus on the first line. You can then divine the first word, a different word on the first line, or the whole concept of the first line.

If you perform this in a formal show, you can even give the book away after the routine. The participant can take the book home, and they will never find a thing!

The effect is accomplished with a custom-made cueing gimmick that looks like an ordinary, everyday object hidden in plain sight throughout the routine but remains completely invisible to your audience.

The gimmicks are accompanied by the revised second edition of Exploring the Zone, Max Maven’s manual for The Da Vinci Code, in which Max examines audience handling, page selection, concepts vs. words, page-number choices, and much more.

You’ll also learn Max’s thoughts on a conceptual book test approach, how to handle “boring” word choices, different forces for books, and how to use The Da Vinci Code as a force book. This alone will change the way you perform book tests and mentalism overall!

You’ll receive:

  • Presentation and technique images
  • Max Maven’s advice for book tests and mentalism
  • An in-depth explanation of “The Da Vinci Zone”
  • Bonus effects and routines

Mentalism is strongest when it’s simple and direct. “Max Maven's Exploring the Zone and The Da Vinci Zone” is just that.
