Reveal

Over the last fifteen years, there has been one utility prop that’s always present in Chris Rawlins' performances, and its name is “Reveal”.
Real world performers are going to recognise immediately the potential of this device. The beauty is, you're going to see exactly what they wrote, so there is no fear of a bad impression. Colin McLeod
You can have a participant write down or draw absolutely anything, and in a split second, you know exactly what it is.
Here’s the kicker: “Reveal” uses no electronics and uses a completely normal pen, envelope, and clipboard.
This is test-conditions mind-reading with ordinary objects that stand up to the scrutiny of any skeptic; it’s incredibly easy to do, and can be performed for one person or 1000 people.
For those familiar with peeking, you know that sometimes you need the participant to write in a little circle or a specific part of the paper. With “Reveal”, they can write or draw anywhere on the paper, and you will still see every bit of information.
This gimmick has evolved a lot over the last fifteen years, and this version has been refined and perfected over years of real-world performance.
Here’s what you’ll get:
- Brand new and updated gimmick
- Clipboard
- Envelope
“Reveal” takes up almost no space, is easy to travel with, durable, and always there when you need it. The reset takes less than five seconds, and you’ll be performing it within minutes of opening your package.
If you want to tell someone what they’re thinking, whether that’s a word, a number, or a drawing, “Reveal” is your answer.
Your audience won’t see anything, but you will see everything with “Reveal.”

BUT the non-downloadable video could easily serve as a parody of what is wrong with video instruction in general and unscripted video instruction in particular. I don't think I'm exaggerating by suggesting that that explanation portion of the video is 1% essential information and 99% effluvium. It's a stream of consciousness presentation containing some useful suggestions but mostly unnecessary asides, anecdotes, and hyper-detailed explanations of the obvious.
That said, the effect is self-recommending, the method subtle and well concealed. I will NEVER AGAIN watch the video, but even though mentalism is not my primary focus, I'll be performing this often. There are few stronger effects than a convincing drawing duplication. And this is that.
All you need to do is follow the Chris' great instructions and do as he says. It is great!
Tried it out on a magician friend who has buggered up more magic tricks I've shown him than is imaginable. It worked great and had him stumped.
Easy, direct, and totally believable.

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.
John asks: is this something that can be done one handed?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:You will need to use multiple hands for this routine, I'm afraid.
Matt asks: I’m the performance video, the drawing is put inside the envelope, then pulled out again for another look, then put back inside the envelope. Does the method require that you take it out the second time?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Please email us at Wizards@vanishingincmagic.com and we can look into this query for you
Gabriel asks: What are the dimensions of the clipboard?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The clipboard is around 10 inches in height and 5 inches in width
Richard asks: Has anyone found paper better for this effect than Amazon Basic Multipurpose Copy Paper?
- 1. Jim responds:Any paper should work.
- 2. Richard responds:Mmmm. I've tried several brands of "copy paper." So far, Amazon's is not only the cheapest, but also the best I've found so far for this. Maybe "any paper" will work under ideal conditions, but I'm shooting for optimal conditions here.
- 3. Craig responds:20 lb. paper works great.
Olivier asks: One question, is this one locked now?
- 1. Richard responds:If you mean does the gimmick lock, the answer is no.
- 2. Craig responds:If you follow Chris' directions you don't need to worry about a "lock". Just follow his directions and believe. It's the uncertain mind that could get the spectator questioning.
- 3. Jan responds:I have the original from 2013 and was discussing my idea with Chris then (I think it was during one of the MindVention conventions)… I do it ever sine: use an additional bulldog clip at the bottom of the clipboard. Remove this clip before you slide the clipboard into the envelop and use it later to close the envelop… all motivated and it gives you additional freedom as now the clipboard is sort of locked at the beginning.
Tom asks: Do you have to use a clipboard and/or an envelope? Is this required to make this work? It’s mentioned they are ungimmicked so it made me wonder if this was just Chris’ preference to use these items or if they were necessary?
- 1. Richard responds:Both the clipboard and envelope are essential to the handling. The clipboard, though ungimmicked, has a quality essential to the performance of the trick and the envelope is essential for concealing the gimmick at "crunch time."
Rick asks: I bought Reveal from you in June 2013 - what's the difference between this one and the one I bought in 2013? Or is there no difference (and you're just trying to push it again?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The new one is more durable and all black. The "secret" has been perfected, it is hidden better than before.
Max asks: Does anything need to be replaced? Are refills of any kind needed?
- 1. Chris (creator) responds:Just a sheet of paper each performance. Which means that if you buy a 500 sheet pack of copy paper for 8-10USd you can perform this 1000 times. It's very economical.
- 2. Emir responds:No refills needed. I guess you can change the envelope after extensive use, but it's a regular envelope, so any that can fit the clipboard inside will do.
John asks: One buyer mentioned the envelope was delivered folded so it was useless. Is it still folded when delivered or is it delivered flat?
- 1. Chris (creator) responds:I felt it was important that buyers get the envelope to but on the tutorial I explain exactly which I use and where to find it. Any will work but the one included is really for practice, right out the box.
- 2. Emir responds:Just to add, envelope is not gimmicked in any way. You can use any large envelope that can fit the clipboard inside.
Marko asks: What is the upgrade of the gimmick? I have the "old" reveal..
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The new one is more durable and all black. The "secret" has been perfected, it is hidden better than before.
