Perception Shaped as a Coin

This video highlights the incredible amount of thought that Miguel has put into coin magic. He assumes you can perform basic techniques, and instead teaches psychological methods for performing effects (i.e. Slydini). Even if you are not interested in theory, this DVD is an amazing deal as it contains 37 routines that mostly use ordinary coins (at least 33). Amazing!!!
With that said, there are a couple of things that you should be aware of. The chapters on the DVD are not divided into categories, simply marked every 5 minutes. Although the effects and explanations are in English, the theory section is in spanish with translated subtitles. This is not a problem for a serious student who wants to learn the advanced secrets of magic. Take notes and mark the times for your favorite effects. This took me ~6 hours to get through the first time because of all of the pausing/note-taking (obviously, not in one sitting).

This DVD is, so far, a mixed bag. Miguel, speaking in English, is engaging, funny, a good teacher and his effects are very strong. I will learn a lot from his routines and his explanations. Unfortunately, the theory sequences, in Spanish with English subtitles, are not so good. It's not the content. So far, I have been impressed with his thinking and there is much to think about. The presentation, however, is poor. The English subtitles are full of typos, often fly by quickly, and for some inexplicable reason, the type is set like this: Y o u m u s t r e m e m b e r t h a t t h e p o s i t i o n..." It takes a minute to figure out each word let alone the sentences they are forming. I had to pause a lot to read the subtitles. Given the length of the DVD (almost 4 hours), it could take a long while to get through it. So if you get this, prepare to be amazed, amused, to learn some nifty coin magic, but also to have your reading skills (and patience) challenged. Maybe they will fix these problems in a new release.
