Wayne Dobson's signature effect is now available to magicians around the world in an incredible new version!

"Echo" is a key part of Wayne's legacy. It is a world-class act filled with non-stop, highly-interactive, self-working comedy card magic that works just as well on stage as it does close up.

While his MS condition prevents him from performing much these days, Wayne had a chance to perform "Echo" at a recent gathering of The Session magic convention. He brought the house down and got a standing ovation. That is the power of "Echo"!

Now, with support of Alan Wong, you can be part of this history with "Echo Deluxe". This collector's edition features a gorgeous solid walnut hardwood gimmicked magnetic card box to facilitate a miracle ending with the chosen card appearing from the empty box.

Don't let the beauty of these props fool you though. This version is still completely functional and doesn't need to collect dust on your shelf. It comes with complete instructions featuring the entire original script and handling for "Echo".

"What you have here is a routine that has served me extremely well over the years. I have used it in TV, cabaret and in my stage and theatre shows, but it registers strongest in corporate work when you use the MD, or someone that everybody knows. Ever since I started doing the effect in 1995 I have continually updated the routine to what you are about to read. The basic effect was inspired by the American magician, the late Karrel Fox. You teach the spectator a card trick by giving him obvious verbal cues and, at the finish, neither he nor the audience are aware of how it was accomplished! What is absolutely certain... is plenty of laughs and ten minutes of solid entertainment!" Wayne Dobson

Ben
For the cost I was extremely disappointed. Wayne is a superb magician and hilarious in my opinion but some of his tricks I feel are very over priced. This is one.

~~Short Review~~
Prop 9/10
Routine 9/10
Instructions 4/10

Just remember. The price is what it is because you are buying one hell of a routine, with a beautiful handmade prop and im pretty sure the rights to perform the routine as well. This routine is an automatic home run for anyone wanting a killer comedy bit.

~~Longer Review~~

Prop 9/10

You receive a beautiful wooden switch box to house the routine (for the most part) and a nice soft drawstring bag to store the box in. The box is very well made and has a very symmetrical look to it to hide any orientation changes. It fits a full deck of cards with a little extra wiggle room for the secret. With the box loaded and a deck inside. It gives the appearance that the deck is just big enough to fit inside. Helping to hide the reveal later.

Now with the reveal. The secret doesn't open perfectly so you may have to shift the box around a little bit to get it to nest properly. That's my only issue with the box.

Routine 9/10

This doesn't even need to be said, but this is a pretty amazing routine. It's simple, so you can focus on the overall performance. It's packed with comedy bits and moments that keep the audience guessing where the Hell this is even going. Only for the last moment to kick them in the teeth. This like most of Wayne's Material, is something small that plays MASSIVE!. With this routine, you can learn it word for word, or take my approach and learn the path and create an outline. Then fill it in with the audience. You can really make this your own and still hold up as a funny and incredible piece of magic.

I do have an issue with this one, tho, but we'll get into that in the next section.

Instructions 4/10

This is where I have an issue. I purchased this after learning it in the Legacy Collection and wanted to get the nice box for it plus to see a possible performance of it. You get 2 things (as of posting this review) a PDF Manuscript with the instructions plus the script. And you get a performance video. Here's my issue. The manuscript version doesn't seem to be the full version of the routine. I'm not sure why, but the Manuscript ends with the Card box revealing the Card inside. But the version in the performance video, the version in the Legacy collection, and the version in the complete collection have a different ending that uses the Box as a gag. I guess the Manuscript was possibly written to remove the cig stuff, and focused on making the routine more palatable and available for all types of people. I'm not sure. But outside of that, thats my only issue with this.

I have this box for years. Purchased at a Dobson lecture. I lost the manuscript so I just bought the whole thing again. As far as the box having to be fiddled for the reveal if you play with it enough you'll know how to get it right.

And I feel it's unfair to give an item one star just because you think the price is to high.

This is a sure winner!!!

Have a question about this product? It's possible others do too. Ask here and other Vanishing Inc. Magic customers will be able to respond with assistance! Alternatively, email us and we can help too.

  • Kyle asks: If I may ask. (This is not to be taken in tone or anger, just curiosity) What was the reasoning to change the ending in the manuscript?. I figured at first it was due to it possibly being an older release with the addition to the box. But the versions in the legacy collection and the complete collection follow the same path, with the box being a gag. The video supplied also features the box as a gag, but the presentation fits more the Legacy collection release. I'm just a little confused why the manuscript with this seems to use the box as the climax reveal. I'm only asking on here because I'm not 100% sure who to actually ask about it.

    • 1. Jim responds:I am guessing that Alan Wong would be the one to ask about this.
  • Andrew asks: Does this work best in a stage, larger format setting? Or can it work in walk around/small group setting?

    • 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:It works close up or on stage.
  • Robert asks: Is the manuscript included with Echo Deluxe the same manuscript which was originally sold? (Specifically, is the routine/script the same as I previously purchased a few years ago except for the addition of the card box?)

    • 1. Kyle responds:I haven’t seen the original manuscript, but based on what I’ve read from the Complete Collection and Legacy Collection, the manuscript included with Echo Deluxe ends with the box being the final reveal. In the earlier versions, the box was used more as a throwaway gag (a good one, at that). While the manuscript in Echo Deluxe stops there, it also includes a more recent video of Wayne performing the routine (assisted), and that performance follows the version found in the Legacy Collection. That version is actually closer to what’s in the Complete Collection than to what’s in the manuscript itself. That said, if you don’t own the other two published works and only have Echo Deluxe, you’ll still be able to easily piece together the more updated version of the routine.
