Reverse Logic

A card trick done backwards. Joshua Jay breaks the mold on card magic with the highly-anticipated release of one of his most cherished routines: “Reverse Logic.”
Developed in 2010, and used in nearly every show since, “Reverse Logic” features an engaging premise that immediately hooks an audience before knocking them off their feet with multiple magical moments that happen in rapid succession.
“Reverse Logic” is one of Josh’s most trusted companions. Every element has been fully fleshed out and refined over years of performances. For the first time ever, you can now get a complete set containing the props needed to start performing right away. As there’s no difficult sleight of hand required, you’ll be able to jump right in!
A Jaw-Dropping Interactive Adventure
After discussing your fascination with time travel, you exclaim that you’ll be doing a card trick in reverse. It begins with the final round of applause and works backwards from there.
Your watch is removed, covered with a handkerchief and secured in a glass that remains in clear view of the audience. A deck is then shown in new deck order before you remove a card and keep it facedown. This is their card, they just don’t know it yet because they haven’t selected one. To complete the backwards card trick, they now do the one thing that is usually the first thing in any other card trick: they pick a card. Finally, your participant shuffles the cards.
Now, for the fun part. It’s time to start traveling back in time.
The participant looks through the deck and notices their selected card–the one they just saw–has vanished. Well, actually, it’s just gone back in time. The isolated face-down card on the other side of the stage is turned over to reveal it is indeed their chosen card. How about your watch from earlier? Well, it has also vanished from the glass and reappeared back on your wrist.
As a final kicker, the deck they just mixed is instantly and visually put back in new deck order. You’re left in the perfect position to once again accept your huge round of applause; which, this time, is very well deserved.
Easy-to-Do & Comes With Custom Props
“Reverse Logic” was born from Josh’s desire to create the best and most unique card trick he could think of. He started with the premise and, as luck would have it, ended up creating a method that is also incredibly easy.
Careful consideration went into creating custom cards (made from amazing crushed Bicycle Mandolin stock)and the perfect props that handle most of the hard work for you. With no difficult sleight of hand to worry about, you can immerse yourself in the moment and focus on creating an exceptional experience for every audience.
While this amazing effect is clearly perfect for any formal close-up show, it also solves one of the biggest challenges many magicians face as they try to translate their close-up material to parlor or stage situations. Offering a crystal-clear premise that is visual and happens up in your hands, “Reverse Logic” is a rare card trick that can play huge for audiences of any size.
Add an easy-to-do miracle to your show today. Get “Reverse Logic” by Joshua Jay!
NOTE: You receive everything you need except for the wine glass. While the "Collapsible Wine Glass" is a perfect choice, any wine glass that is large enough to hold a deck of cards will work well. The cards come in red backs only.
Customer reviews for Reverse Logic
You need a tiny bit of arts and crafts, but nothing remotely hard, and you need an appropriate wine glass. I also recommend VI's collapsible wine glass - it works great, it's sturdy, and it's packable.
You receive two decks of Bicycle cards, one is custom made, a special card case, a high-quality Devil's Hank, two watches and an excellent 40-minute tutorial with a live performance. All props are of a very high quality and made to last. The box it comes in is great for transporting the props to your shows which I highly recommend. The fact this is small enough to fit into my pocket yet play in a 300-seat theatre ticks every box for me.
This innovative routine includes multiple magical moments: Jay isolates a card (representing the participant’s chosen card), his watch disappears and reappears, and a deck shuffles back into a new order, all with minimal sleight-of-hand. This series of surprises makes it suitable for parlor, stage, and even formal close-up settings.
What makes this a standout product for me is the clarity, simplicity, and the impact of its custom props, which simplify the performance while allowing for personal flair and focus on audience engagement. Joshua’s skillful teaching and the trick’s easy-to-follow premise make it accessible to magicians with a range of experience levels, although a little setup and practice are necessary to perform seamlessly.
Because you are supplied with all the necessary props, you'll be able to add this to your own act in no time. Be sure to work on the presentation and take note of the nuances Joshua shares with some of the props. His work on the Devil's Hank makes it look more natural and more like a regular hank. Joshua does an excellent job of showing why and when he does certain things. Something simple as placing his hands behind his back to appear casual or showing hands empty at a certain time all help in the overall presentation and strength of the routine. It's like having your own director guide you through everything to get maximum impact. You can see this has gone through thousands of performances done over many years to get it to the point it’s at now. The only thing you need to supply is a wine glass, or you could use the one designed for travel by Vanishing Inc.
If you do shows in private homes, parlor shows or even stage shows this routine will leave a lasting memory on your audience. If you only wanted to do ONE card trick in your show this would be my choice. Not all card tricks have such a great premise or involve things other than cards. The rhythm and beats of the magic are worked out so in 3-minutes you’ll get six strong moments. It ticks all the boxes for me and is VERY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
So this is ready to go out of the box other than needing a wine glass that cards will fit in. You have to do a very simple "assembly" of something that's so easy you really don't need instructions. It's super clear and the assembly is very "self working" in and of itself.
The explanation and instructions are very clear and well done. Josh walks you through all the points, nuances, and little details that really make this trick shine.
This is one of those tricks that will not only be a great fooler for your audience, but the methods all along the way are super cool and fun to do as well. We've all bought tricks where the method was so disappointing that you almost don't want to do the trick? This isn't one of those. The methods aren't difficult, but are so fun you'll have a blast performing this trick.
And after you think the trick is over, there's an unexpected ending, which just caps it all off.
You won't be disappointed with this - it's not going to sit in your drawer of unused tricks - this will be in your show.
My only complaint is that the second video is very washed out so hard to see what’s going on- I had to watch it a couple of times to be sure I knew what to follow.
As usual, great service from VI, who have been quick to fix a small error with my order.
The props that come with the purchase are top-notch. You receive everything you need to perform the routine right out of the box, including two specially prepared decks. There is a small amount of setup required, but it's easy to manage and well within the reach of anyone with basic magic experience. The quality of the cards and materials is what you'd expect from Vanishing Inc reliable, professional, and built to last.
This is the kind of trick that reminds you why you fell in love with magic in the first place. It’s clever, practical, and gets great reactions. I’m excited to add it to my regular set and know it’ll be a hit with audiences.
You'll definitely want to get the VI glass to use with it. Not only does it look great, but it works exactly as advertised.
The only reason I wouldn't recommend this is because I don't want anyone else doing it, LOL!!
You should get this trick!

If you do not have this in your repertoire then what the hell you waiting for? If I was to fix anything that is wrong with the effect, I would say nothing because it is sealed tight and ready to go.
Thank you Josh and entire vanishing inc family for making this. Now I need to go back in time and practice.
Fourni complet avec les montres et foulard, les explications sont claires
The props are well made, the instructions are clear and it is relatively easy to do. I haven't performed it yet but I'm sure it will get great reactions.
I would have liked it if one of the watches had a buckle strap but I can easily change that myself, so that's not a big deal.

Rezaul asks: What is the band size of the watch?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The watch band is a one size fits all as it is stretchy
Bill asks: I see someone already asked about doing this sleeveless and the answer was palms up. Without giving it away can you elaborate a little more as I do NOT perform with a jacket. Since I don't, it would be obvious to my past/present audience if I all of a sudden I did. Can it be done without and if only with palms up which baffles me...is it still easy with no incredible sleights? Thanks, Bill
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:You can do this with no jacket but you might need to work a bit to hide the watch
Robert asks: In the review section of Reverse Logic, Robert mentions a VI glass/case. I would like to order Reverse Logic with the glass. Can you point me to the product that Robert suggests. I looked through your glasses but could not associate any with Reverse Logic. Thanks. Bob
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Hey Bob. It's this https://www.vanishingincmagic.com/magic-accessories/collapsible-wine-glass/ but it's not in stock right now I'm afraid.
Keith asks: Is the force pretty sure fire and easy to execute?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Yes, it will take very little practice to force the card
Rick asks: What does the current watch look like that is going out in the orders? In the past it was green band or something odd. I wanted to check. Thank you.
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:It's a black watch band
Joel asks: I am very, very uncoordinated and clumsy. Even no difficult moves are difficult. Will I be able to do the reverse trick J
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Hard to say with what info you have given. Most performers have no issues with being able to do this routine though!
Gary asks: Already have the Hank, deck switcher, etc. Only need the deck. Any plans to sell the deck alone?
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:Not at this time.
Juan Jose asks: REVERSE LOGIC QUERY Just one question, I bought the Reverse Logic game!! And in the video tutorial, you detail that the normal deck is marked, so that the deck can be used for other purposes. The truth is, I have looked at the back of the deck, and I can't find any marks. Could you tell me how to locate the marks and where they are located??
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The tutorial was filmed before the manufacturing was finished but the deck is not marked. This was an error in the video. We apologize for any confusion.
Juan asks: Can the deck be riffle shuffled instead of overhand? I run into a lot of audience members who try to do a "on the leg" riffle shuffle. Wanted to know if I need to manage that part.
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:A overhand shuffle would need to be carried out for this effect to work the way Josh performs it
- 2. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:It cannot be riffle shuffled. Overhand is preferred.
Josh asks: Is there a video of the actual performance? Im happy to spend the $99 but id like to know what the routine is and what is happening with this effect. Yes, I read the description but I would like to see the actual trick. Thanks!
- 1. Vanishing Inc. Magic responds:The full performance video is on the page, along with the trailer. Hope that helps.
