The device is really clever and can be moved and put into various things so you can customize how and where you peek. This is one of those things tho that If you can afford it, then get it. If you can't then get an impression device or any other of the multitude of peeks and duplication effects out there.
From what I am aware. There is no Apple app. Only android. I do not know if this will be changed or not.
The devices can last up to about 3-4 weeks before they will need to be recharged. I'm making a habit to have them on the charger the day before a show.
The issues I do have with the device are pretty stupid, but I feel it's worth a mention.
The box design makes it hard to get the assets out of the box. If the pen falls too deep, it's hard to get out. The boards themselves get jammed into the foam and are hard to remove.
And also there is no available or taught routine with the device. This is an area that some may argue that YOU should be the one finding, working, creating...etc the routine. Not them. But I believe that a device that is $500 should have some information on performances or what have you. But again. I see it from both sides.
But that brings me to the price. This thing is $500. Obviously. Which is really cheap for what it does and compared to other devices on the market. Don't get me wrong. I do fear it will break down right before a performance or worse. During a performance. I usually keep a drawing dup effect on hand just in case. But that's still a fear.
How does it feel?
-The pen feels pretty low range. Not cheap but not far from it. You get a sticker to put over the charging port which is pretty decent.
-The non-gimmicked (NG) board. Well. It's a solid piece of wood. ... It's nice and smooth and has a hole cut into it for the peek device...
-The gimmicked board. Well, it looks amazingly close to the NG one. But is like a drawing tablet. The power switch is really small and hard to get to tho. Well depends on the person. I have large hands so it's hard for me.
-The peek device. Well, the one you get is not like the one in the video. The one in the video is a prototype. The one you get has just as big of a screen, but it's a smaller device. And yes the speed you see it receives is real-time. Which is pretty cool tbh. It's easy to use. Press and hold for 3 secs to turn off or on. Press once to put the device to sleep. Press again to wake it up. That will also clear the device so you can do multiple things if you so choose.
All in all. You get what you pay for. It's kind of mid-tear cost for this kind of device. If it breaks, it breaks. But it does what it does well enough for me to use it. And so far it has not failed me yet lol. (just spend a little time beforehand setting it up).
OHHH Oh Oh Oh. Before I forget. The pen will turn off after 5 mins of inactivity. This is how they get around it. They tell you to press the tip of the pen as you hand it to the participant.
Here's how I do it. I tell the person before they do anything, to draw a line horizontally on the page and sign it underneath so that I can not switch it, etc. (My presentation is around performing the effect under extreme test conditions)
That way, if the pen doesn't turn on when they draw the line. It will when they sign their name =).
