The Torn and Restored Newspaper has been a staple of stage magic for years. But for just as long, it has come with compromises. Glues, wires, magnets, and a fifteen-minute (or longer) preparation.

With “The Examiner - Special Edition”, all of those restrictions are stripped away. No more palming, special clothing requirements, or special newspaper.

Here’s exactly how the effect looks:

You show your audience a newspaper and mark it for identification so your audience knows that this is the same newspaper throughout the routine. It remains in full view as you begin to tear it into pieces. They see the tears being made, they see the jagged edges of the newspaper, they hear it being torn. But then, as if it were real magic, the newspaper completely restores itself right before your audience’s eyes. At the end, it's handed out to the audience to examine and keep.

  • No glue
  • No magnets
  • No wires
  • The newspaper can be given away at the end
  • 1 minute setup

Ever since John Graham released his book Stage by Stage, magicians have been asking for a video tutorial teaching “The Examiner.”

And John could have simply released a video download. But he took it one step further.

“The Examiner - Special Edition” isn’t just a video explanation but an entire performance system.

In addition to the in-depth video instructions that teach you how to learn, perform, and master “The Examiner”, you also receive the custom gimmick handmade by John himself, a marker, and a newspaper so that you can get started learning immediately. Everything arrives in a compact container that keeps the props organized and ready to go.

Throw it in your case, and you’re prepared to add this to your show at a moment's notice, even in your close-up case.

“The Examiner - Special Edition” is one of those rare pieces of magic that elevates from a trick to a true reputation maker. We truly believe that this might be the most practical and fooling Torn and Restored Newspaper effect ever created.

"The FIRST major improvement on this crowd-pleasing effect in decades, and I'm proud to feature it in my show. My highest recommendation!" Damian

"I've seen John Graham obsess over the smallest details because he wants his audience to experience true wonder. This is magic created with thought, integrity, and love for his art." Jeremy Dutcher

"What amazes me about The Examiner: Special Edition is not only the cleverness of its mechanics, but the deceptive psychology." Tzvi Hilsenrath

"When we were filming this project, John fooled me during the explanation!" Charlie Phillips

John is a great person, fantastic magician, and brilliant mind. I love the examiner and highly recommend it for a working pro. Give it the practice it deserves and you have a true working miracle on your hands. Worth more than the actual price of the effect and tutorial. 5 Stars.
Frank
This is a great effect. Be sure to give it the practice time that it deserves. Being able to give away a signed, restored newspaper really blows their minds.

i seem to have seen this trick as we all have....countless times and i was bored of it. Then John Graham comes up with this version that makes so much more sense. First, the unweildly , size is no longer an issue. Using the N.Y. Times is much bigger, fatter and it all ads to disaster. Not so with the Herald Examiner... using a tabloid paper is easier to hold,,,and now with the marker...all moves can be accounted for. If you ever did it before, you will appreciate the ease of dispensing of the pieces....BRILLIANT! -jeff linn
