How Many Days Should You Attend?

Blackpool is not something you can comfortably squeeze into a single afternoon. A full convention registration gives you access to four days of scheduled activities, from Thursday through Sunday. The programme is dense, and even attendees who stay for the entire event will miss things.

For the full experience, arrive on Wednesday and leave on Monday.

Arriving a day early gives you time to check into your hotel, collect your registration when available, learn your way around the town, and meet other magicians before the main programme begins.

Leaving on Monday means you do not have to rush away after the final Sunday performances. Blackpool evenings have a habit of continuing long after the official schedule has ended.

Getting to the Blackpool Magic Convention

Travelling by Train

For most attendees travelling within the UK, the train is the easiest option.

Blackpool North has connections throughout the country, generally through Preston, as well as some direct services. The station is close enough to the Winter Gardens that you can walk to the venue or take a short taxi ride when carrying luggage.

Book advance tickets when possible, particularly when travelling from London or southern England. Sunday evening and Monday morning services can become busy as convention attendees begin heading home. Leave extra time for connections. Missing ten minutes of a lecture is annoying. Flying to Blackpool

Manchester Airport is usually the most convenient airport for international visitors. It has its own railway station, with direct and connecting services to Blackpool.

Driving and Parking

Drivers can reach central Blackpool from the M55, usually by leaving at Junction 4 and following the A583. There is no visitor parking at the Winter Gardens itself. Nearby options include the Houndshill Shopping Centre car park, Central Car Park, Talbot Road Multi-Storey, and open-air parking around Adelaide Street. Once you have parked, leaving the car in one place for the weekend is often easier than navigating central Blackpool every day.

Where to Stay for the Blackpool Convention

The best hotel is not necessarily the most luxurious one. It is the hotel you can reach quickly when it is cold, raining, and you have been awake since the first lecture.

When deciding where to stay for the Blackpool Convention, begin with the walking distance to the Winter Gardens. A simple room five minutes away can be much more useful than a nicer hotel requiring a long walk or daily taxi rides. Blackpool has a large number of small hotels, guest houses, and bed and breakfasts within walking distance of the venue.

Properties around the town centre, including those near Albert Road, Adelaide Street, Coronation Street, and the surrounding streets, are usually well positioned for the convention.

Collecting Your Registration

The current Registration Hub is on Coronation Street at the top of Victoria Street. Bring your booking confirmation and photo identification. After collecting your pass, you can enter and exit the Winter Gardens through the Church Street or Leopold Grove entrances.

Collect your registration as early as possible. Queues are likely to be longest shortly before the first major event of the day.

Keep your pass somewhere secure and easy to reach. You will need it repeatedly throughout the convention.

How to Plan Your Blackpool Schedule

The complete schedule is generally released around two weeks before the convention. There is also an official convention app for checking current programme information.

When the schedule appears, do not simply mark everything that interests you. You will end up with several overlapping events and no time to move between them.

Use three categories instead:

Must see: The performers, lecturers, or shows you would genuinely regret missing.
Would like to see: Events you will attend when they do not conflict with something more important.

Check where each event is taking place. The Winter Gardens is a large building, and moving between rooms can take longer than expected when thousands of other attendees are doing the same thing.

Are there dealers there?

Absolutely. For many attendees, the dealers' room is one of the biggest parts of the Blackpool Magic Convention. Around 150 magic shops, creators, and dealers typically exhibit, ranging from small independent makers to some of the largest magic retailers in the world. You’ll find magic tricks, magic books, mentalism, and plenty of playing cards.

The main dealers' room is located in the Empress Ballroom, although it often spills into nearby spaces and the balcony. It is much larger than it first appears, so take your time and explore the whole area.

It is also worth bringing some cash, as not every dealer accepts cards and the nearest cash machines are outside the venue.

Eating and Taking Breaks

It sounds obvious, but convention attendees regularly forget to eat.

There are refreshment facilities inside the Winter Gardens and many cafés, takeaways, and restaurants around the town centre. Food and drink rules may apply inside performance spaces, including restrictions during the gala shows.

Schedule at least one proper meal each day. Snacks and coffee will get you through the afternoon, but they will not carry you through a gala show followed by several hours of late-night magic.

The same applies to sleep. You may not get much, but returning to your hotel for a short break can make the evening considerably more enjoyable.

Blackpool is as much about the people as the official programme.

Introduce yourself to the person next to you in a lecture. Ask someone what they have enjoyed so far. Join a session without feeling that you immediately need to perform.

The late-night sessions are often where friendships begin, techniques are shared, and ideas are developed. Just remember that the following morning’s lectures will begin whether you went to bed at midnight or four o’clock.
