Wonderful Swede
By Ken Trombly -
John Balabrega Miller, who performed as Balabrega, “The Swedish Wonder,” included trained parakeets in his act, as well as self-decapitation and second sight, the latter of which he performed with his wife. Each of these and more are represented in this iconic one sheet poster (30 x 40 inches) by Metropolitan Printing Co. ( New York). Born in 1857, Balabrega died in a horrible accident in 1900 when a gasoline tank exploded in a theatre in Brazil, where he was performing. Thanks, or as Balabrega might have said, “Tack"!
