I own Nikolas Mavresis’s The Lucky Card, which looks like essentially the same trick. Is it worth upgrading to this one?

This is a fine example of a trick that needs an uncut performance so we can decide if its suitable. Video shows us nothing to be honest, love the premise but, this is a potential classic bottom of the drawer trick without an uncut performance!!!!

Does this packaged effect have a different (easier) handling than the way it was described in the book? The book involved specific card moves, that I won’t mention for the sake of exposure, but this effect in the book is definitely not hands off, and may not be suitable for beginners.

* To clarify, without hopefully exposing, is a “DUC” needed in this packaged effect?

The description says the spectator(s) CUT to the four packs of cards, but the video shows them DEALING the four packs. Which is it? Or is it both?

“Bets in Show” is a powerful, self-working routine straight out of John’s working repertoire. It's easy enough that you can learn it in just a few minutes, yet strong enough that you could perform it at the Magic Castle. There are ZERO sleights to worry about, and all the magic happens in your audience’s hands.

You introduce five different poker chips, each from a different casino. After a quick mix, your participants cut the deck themselves, creating four packets that they place next to four of the chips.

At first, it seems like they’ve cut to four random cards, but that isn’t the case. Each card matches the name of the casino on the chip next to it. For example, the Ace of Spades is next to a $1 chip from the Black Aster Casino. The Five of Diamonds is next to a $5 chip from the Five Points Royale, and so on. If that wasn’t enough, you then flip over the chips to reveal that the exact cards are printed on the other side!

Right when they think it is over, you point out there is still one more chip to go from “The Desert Oasis.”
When you flip it over, the prediction is blank. That’s no mistake. That’s the prediction.

You show that every single card in the deck is blank, except the four they cut to. And you end completely clean. No deck switch, no trick cards.

This is a great effect by John. Nicely packaged hard box (which only I will ever see!!) the props are great. Someone questioned the chips, not sure what they are made of but they are nicely weighted and not too light. It’s a great routine which I know , based on John’s previous routines plays out really strongly for audiences. The instructions are really clear. It’s not a hard routine to do but plays really strongly. Highly recommended. David A

Big fan of Guastaferro's work. I've read his entire Degree trilogy, and upon reading this trick in The Final Degree, I really wanted to start doing it. The only problem was that it was really hard to find poker chips I liked that I could make into the props necessary. I tested this same routine with regular "prediction playing cards" that I kept in an envelope. It was fine, but I really wanted poker chips. When I saw that this was released, I instantly purchased. Having all the props ready to go with a wallet to carry them in is worth spending $40 on, even though I already knew the secret from the book. The chips feel nice, these do NOT have the common problem with magic prop chips these days where they feel like cheap plastic; instead, these feel and sound like real clay poker chips you'd actually get from a Casino. The printing and the subliminal message component is well-done and looks great. The cards just save the hassle of getting another blank deck, which saves a few bucks. The purse is not necessarily the best purse for chips I've ever seen, but it's a really welcome addition to have a complete set. I am pleased with my purchase even though I knew exactly what I was getting. I'm such a fan of John's work that it's worth the $40 to just have a nice set of props made up that come in one box. I am very excited to add this routine to my work, potentially even as a closer. This routine is extremely powerful, extremely easy to perform, and so practical.

Every effect John does is amazing. This is one of his best and very easy to perform. The instructions are excellent and easy to follow. If you have his Picturesque it would be a great follow up to Bets in Show. This really is a stunner and your participants will be amazed. Highly recommended. A+++++++++++++++++++

Great starts with a seperate routine to then do a deck switch if you want to it's an old school routine but fun.ome to.perform. The bets is a great fun routine as it looks like you got it wrong then the chips reveal then the kicker ending easy to learn fun to perform even comes with a lovely purse to keep your casino chips in .which is a ice touch.
