A great deck, great to handle, great back design, comes with a double backer, and a duplicate card, no borders on the faces, which is great for doing a reverse fan. you get seven pages of a downoad pdf file of instructions, on how the marking system works, which is easy to understand, and very well explained, Inluding diagrams of the system, and once you no how the marking system works, its great, just a bit of practice on knowing what to look for, all in all a great deck.

Easy to read however my 2 of clubs has the same marking as the ace of clubs which has the correct marking and the duplicate card also has the wrong marking. Besides that they handle great just not reliable marking on the cards.

As a playing card designer, I have naturally gained a fascination for marked decks, and I confess that I almost overlooked this one until I read an article online that included Mortalis among a list of favourite marked decks. That caught my eye, and luckily Vanishing.inc was able to satisfy my curiosity.
The deck is neat, well designed and could easily be mistaken for just another regular deck were it not for the well thought out marking system, which I found easy to get to grips with. My eyesight isn't brilliant in my dotage but I was able to use these cards when attempting to entertain friends with a little practice and no great difficulty. The knowledge gleened from this deck adds to my repertoire when designing marking systems and I can see that this deck will remain a favourite when I discuss/teach/talk about marking systems among clients.

Don't get me wrong - I like this deck of cards. They look classy (as they should at this price) and the black minimalist design was largely what attracted me to these marked cards in the first place. In the same delivery I bought the Superior Brand marked cards for the same price and I have rated those here too. Much as I like the Mortalis Playing Cards a deck of marked cards should be fit for purpose, all accurately marked and easy to read. As with other reviews my deck had the Ace of Clubs and the 2 of Clubs identically marked whilst the 2 of Hearts is only marked in one place rather than two corners like the rest. The marking effectively disappears when the card is rotated in the pack : it could be a King? It's a shame as it just means these will not be my go to marked deck if the markings can't be trusted. In my opinion the marking system also takes a little getting used to : practice is definitely needed to be able to read them as quickly as their designer does. The written instructions are clear with only a few easily correctable mistakes, like 12 boxes being labelled as 9. If these minor faults were sorted, as they so easily could be, it'd be so much better. For now I'll stick to the other marked cards I've bought from Vanishing Inc.
