Two Truths & a Lie: Paul Gertner
The first-ever final load Paul used for his legendary “Steel Cups and Balls” routine was a shot put.
Paul once performed Card on Ceiling at the Houston Astrodome and managed to stick the card dead center at the top of the dome.
Paul also once ended a Card on Ceiling routine once with a card on a ceiling 60,000 feet in the air (18,000 feet higher than a standard transatlantic airliner flies)
REVEAL LIE
It was #1. Paul did use a shot put for his final load at one point, but it wasn't the first-ever final load. The first load for Cups and Steel Balls was actually the number "1" made out of steel. He'd end the routine by saying "here's the biggest ONE of all." Dai Vernon did not like this ending when he saw it and suggested that Paul use a steel ball that was bigger than the mouth of the cup instead. That's what led Paul to use a shot put before finally finding the perfect ball. So, how about #3? Paul did that aboard the Concorde transatlantic supersonic airliner.
