Designing a Book that Reflects the Author
By George Luck -
One of the most enjoyable parts of working on new products is the design phase. It’s not always easy (in fact, sometimes it’s really hard) but it is always rewarding when you see the concept that began on a notepad, become a physical product that so many people will get to enjoy.

Game Changer by Jason Ladanye needed to have a very specific look. Like all of our products, we want to make the design reflect the author’s style. In Jason’s case we drew from a number of his characteristics.
- The suave, smooth, and very confident card technician (Jason himself describes his performing persona this way too!). This influenced the photo we chose to use. A smoke-filled room, poker chips on the table, cigars, close to $100,000 cash in play with a $200 bottle of the finest single malt scotch.
- Stylized and finessed – This influenced our choice of a black and white color scheme with just s hint of sepia.
- Edgy – Jason’s “edge” led us to the photo of him looking slightly disheveled, with an un-buttoned collar. Almost as if the tricks in the book are what you’d learn if you stayed up late and sessioned with him all through the night until daybreak.

This project is now done and it looks stunning. We hope you will check it out. In the meantime, for us… it’s onto the next design job. It’s sure to hold as many challenges and rewards as Game Changer did!
