Fixing the Bike Seat

By Andi Gladwin -

"Even better than buying a new bicycle is adjusting the seat on your existing bike properly." —Seth Godin

Josh and I often remind ourselves that the best magicians are "great finishers." It's easy to be a "starter" and come up with an idea or learn a new trick. But it's way more difficult to "finish" a trick and put effort into making it great.

Magicians are great starters because it's way more fun to learn or create something new than it is to put time into the finishing details of a trick.

And so, here's a fun experiment: make a list of the tricks that you currently perform and then start to find ways that you can improve each one. Perhaps you might change the moment of a sleight, or make the routine more personal. Any improvement, however small, is worthwhile.

By the end of that exercise you'll know the same number of tricks ... but some of them will be better tricks! That's a bigger win than learning a new trick.
