Christmas Gift Guide: Card Magic
By Ellis James -
Looking for a gift for the magician in your life, but not sure where to start? We got you covered. Here are our recommendations for the 2019 holiday season. For this week, we’ll start with card magic.
Invisible Triumph
Dai Vernon’s Triumph is one of the strongest card magic effects out there. Jim Krenz has made a version that you’ll love because it’s so easy and so clean. Juan Tamariz called it, "A doubly ingenious method for a doubly marvelous triumph." What more do we need to say?
Difficulty: Beginner

Real Ace Cutting
If you could genuinely locate the Aces from a shuffled deck of cards, what would it look like? This project by Ben Earl answers that question. Learn how to perform an astonishing effect with a shuffled deck of cards.
Difficulty: Intermediate to advanced

Smooth Prediction
Created by the Other Brothers, Smooth Prediction is a hard-hitting mentalism masterpiece. One spectator thinks of any card they see. Another spectator cuts the cards anywhere they like. Both cards are then revealed to be predicted well in advance. Simple, direct, and powerful.
Difficulty: Intermediate

Game
Luke Jermay’s version of Dai Vernon’s “Trick that can not be explained”. Jermay’s teaching makes the effect more accessible and easier to understand, while also adding theatrics and layers of deception.
Difficulty: Beginner to intermediate

Instant Memorized Deck
The memorized deck is one of the most powerful tools in magic. This new concept lets you take a shuffled deck and, in the context of a few tricks, have the power of a memorized deck without actually memorizing a full deck.
Difficulty: Advanced

FACT
As seen on Penn and Teller’s Fool Us, FACT stands for Fully Automatic Card Trick. FACT is the complete package, all you have to do is buy it. This is a must-have and is accessible at any skill level. The magic is all in the spectator’s hands, and you don’t have to do any of the work.
Difficulty: Beginner

Level One
Some of the most powerful things in magic that you can do is vanish an object. Level One allows you to vanish a deck of cards slowly and visually down to a single card (We recommend the spectator’s selection) The Level One gimmick is solid and has no flimsy moving pieces, meaning it will last a lifetime.
Difficulty: Intermediate
